New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton now has 4th-longest tenure in NFL

1 Attachment(s)
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has now held his current job for longer than all but three NFL coaches.

Payton was hired after the 2005 season -- 3,687 days ago -- and his tenure is surpassed only by Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots (5,869 days), Marvin Lewis of the Cincinnati Bengals (4,787 days) and Mike McCarthy of the Green Bay Packers (3.693 days).

I like this. A team should stand behind its head coach. They aren't always going to win championships and will have bad seasons as well, but if they stick with them it creates a better environment overall for the team and its players.

I like this as well. It worked for the Steeler and Bill "The Chin" Cowher. You just don't make a change, to make a change. The grass isn't always greener.

Hopefully he climbs the ranks.

We're better off with him than without him.

I always thought the players called Cowher (Spit-Boy)
Every time a player got chewed out by Cowher the spit
would fly in their faces. Sad part was they had to stand
there and take it.

Out of all those guys on that list, Marvin Lewis is the only one I would be like, maybe the team should blow it up and try something different. When you look at what the Bengals have done in the post-season, Marv is the one that makes me sing the little "one of these things is not like the other" song, as far as long term coaches who are consistently winning in the playoffs and bringing home a Lombardi.

I think 2016 is the year of the "hot seat" for Marvin. A winning record won't be enough to save his job.

Nail on the head there Q. The Steelers have had three head coaches from the 70's to present starting with Noll. During that time they have been to 8 super bowls and won 6 of them. The proof is in the pudding.

I agree. I'm quite frankly amazed he has lasted this long.
