Because while free agency isn't everything, it is still a big part of it. And when you keep making bad deals, you not only can't compete in the free agent market, you also will have a hard time holding on to your draft picks down the road.
I don't understand why people think you can just draft and not care about free agency. Every player becomes a free agent at some point. The main thing here is this team needs to decide what they are doing with Drew. If they want to keep him around past next season, then you have a small window to put a team together while he's still here. If they want to take a long term approach, then they shouldn't bother extending him. let him play out his last year and get his contract off the books so that we can start locking up the next wave of core players. |
