It's an election year and the Saints have chosen to stick with the incumbents.

With Payton ready to sign a new five-year deal and Brees negotiating a four-year extension, the coach-quarterback battery responsible for the most successful era in Saints history will enjoy another half-decade together in New Orleans.



If you like free-wheeling, high-scoring, defense-optional football, then you're second-lining to Wednesday's news. If you are worried this thing is headed south the way the Jim Mora era did, well, you're crying in your chicory coffee.

Tom Benson clearly is banking on the former.
