Saints restructure contracts of Cam Jordan & Thomas Morsted

This move gives us 3 million in cap space.

Credit to Nick Underhill:

Saints opened up some cap space by reworking the contracts of Thomas Morstead and Cam Jordan.

Morstead, who previously had a base salary of $3 million, is now listed by the NFLPA at $900,000 this season. This suggests he converted $2.1 million of his salary into a signing bonus.

Jordan, who was listed with a base salary of $3.5 million, now has a base salary of $765,00.

The Saints now are listed as having more than $3 million in cap space. They had $273,000 before making these moves.

However, it does not appear that figure takes into account the contracts of tight end Josh Hill, which is expected to count as a $1.5 million salary-cap charge, and defensive tackle Nick Fairley.

This was done exactly for that purpose. Like I've said before I think the Saints have re-negotiated Drew and others and just aren't saying anything. We'll find out Drew restructured after the draft because I think we're going to make a second first round pick. What team would be willing to trade their first for our 2nd and first next year?

I didn't think Morstead was anything special last year.

Cam is a bit of a surprise but Thomas was expected IMO.

This does not mean the saints should not entertain the idea of another punter. there are a couple that will be UDFA that are well worth a look see.

Morstead had some uncharacteristic shanks last year for sure, but I think he was injured also.

All I know is when Morstead went out due to injury, it got even uglier :dead:.

Not quite sure where he got his info on Morsted but everything I read had him at 4.45 mil against the cap.

Why the heck would we want to trade back in the 1st? We need a ton of young guys over the next couple of years and losing a pick should not be in the plan.
