What if there are only B-players left on defense when we pick, but several A-players on offense?

B-prospects on defense won't really help. We're already stocked to the gills with defensive prospects from last years draft.

NEVER pass up an A-player for a B-player because of need.

Considering this draft is a lot stronger defensively than offensively, I don't think that's a problem...

The advocate has already said WR is not at the top of the saints FO's draft plans.

There is little correlation between additional offensive firepower, wins, and playoff success.

The last 2 years the Saints' offense was in the top 10 in every positive statistical category except rushing.

The last 2 years the Saints' defense was in the bottom 10,5,2, or 1 in every defensive category.

Take a look at the point for, against, differential, and record for the last 8 years:

Year PF PA PD Record
2015 408 476 -68 7-9
2014 401 424 -23 7-9
2013 414 304 110 11-5
2012 461 454 7 7-9
2011 547 339 208 13-3
2010 384 307 77 11-5
2009 510 341 169 13-3
2008 463 393 70 8-8

The correlation is between wins and points differential. Even in years where the offense scores a ton of points (2008,2012) the record was not real good. However each and every year the defense held their points down under 350 (which is 21.9 points per game) the team won more than 10 games and went to the playoffs.

If I have learned nothing else the last 2 years is that the team could not close out games because they couldn't make a stop when it was absolutely crucial. There is no offensive player in the draft that can change that.

But look at the dropoff in PF from 2013 on. Also the lowest scoring year was 2010 but that was a lot to do with Brees' injury. And that schedule was pretty bad.

The big question is if we have clutch receivers outside of Cooks to grind out games and I guess we'll see.

The lines. Have to have lines that are no less than average. Brees can will us to about 7 W's, after that it's on the trenches to deliver the next 3-4 W's.

That's not going to happen the first round of this draft, doubt it will until round 3 or 4, this draft if deep with defensive talent

I get it just don't see it being an issue until later in the draft

Whatever they do I'll be happy. I think we have a very good starting Defense and definitely offense. Need some depth a DL, CB, guard and a replacement for Colston.
