Drew love for Muhammad Wilkerson?
 

Jets want to trade DE Muhammad Wilkerson and Rumor has it Paxton Lynch is the target. The saints draft Lynch and turn around and flip him 8 picks later.

Wilkerson wants a $50 million guaranteed and about $17 million per year. Which is what the Giants gave Olivier Vernon. Muhammad is 26 so he will be 30 when the contract is done which iMO is perfect.

Josh Norman numbers five years and $75 million, with a reported $50 million guaranteed. Josh is 28 so he will be 34 at the end and that does not work for me.

12 to 20 = 400 pts (2nd round pick 50) add a conditional pick?

I know he plays as a 34 DE in the NYJ defense but he can slide inside and be that rush DT in a heart beat. At 6041 315 5.05 He has done it before. The saints would all of a sudden have the ability to put pressure on a QB with a 3 man front.

Most Mocks have a great deal of talent still on the board at 20

The more I think about it the more I kinda like it. This is when you sink a ton of cash into FA. When they are young and just entering their prime. Not on the down hill side of their career,

I don't like this deal at all...

Let me preface that I wanted Wilkerson before taking Cam Jordan in that year's draft...

Now first, Wilkerson broke his leg, fractured, so you don't know what kind of player he'll be coming back from that injury and there's going to be a considerable amount of muscular atrophy and he'll be prone to injuries with the leg moving forward...

Second, this is one deep draft at tackle, extremely deep, we could wait till the third freaking round and get extremely talented defensive upgrades over what we have...

Third, we're trying to get out of salary cap purgatory and let our opponents take our place - why help the Jets with their salary cap and worsen our situation?

And if I'm improving their salary cap situation, I'm not willing to give up a first rounder, maybe a second; but as they need that first rounder for the desired passer, the deal falls...

Don't like this idea at all; they're are several defensive linemen who'll be there in the ideal slot in both rounds one and two to take...

Haven't we learned our history with Byrd?!?

Why take on a cap prohibitive contract for a player with questionable history who's not the team quarterback when comparable talent will be sitting there for two rounds and with four to five years of cap friendly numbers?!?

I don't know if I care what talent is on the board when we pick.

You need to know your guy and you need to want your guy at the pick.

To me if you don't love someone there then you get out of the spot not because you believe there is talent there at that spot.
