Bears release Matt Slausen

I would expect him in N.O. for a work out very soon. Definetly a upgrade from what we currently have

Definitely be worth kickin' the tires on this guy.

For those that follow PFF, Matt Slausen rated out in the top 10 for pass protection. SOLID vet.

Count me IN on signing Matt asap (he'll be signed somewhere w/in a week).

Yeah could be a good stop gap for a couple of years at worst

Bears released OG Matt Slauson.
Slauson was owed just under $3 million this season. The move is surprising after Slauson finished No. 18 in Pro Football Focus' 2015 guard ratings, with a top-ten rank in pass protection. He allowed one sack in 16 starts, and just turned 30 in February. While the Bears are moving on with second-round pick Cody Whitehair at left guard, a good guard just hit the free agent market.

sure call him and see what happens as a stop gap. I really like the youth at OG we added as UDFA. So a seasoned vet might be what the doctor orders for this group. I know jets fans were not happy about losing him.

Funny thing is Peat is in the running to become a starter at OG. which was bitter news from the saints front office. So keep an eye out for RT just in case.

I don't recall where but ivevread this somewhere too...that Peat would be given a shot at guard.

The same could be said for the guard position, where 2015 first-rounder Andrus Peat could factor into the competition. Loomis said Saturday that Peat will get a shot to compete for a starting job at one of the two guard spots.

He started 2 games at guard last year. Payton said it was because he'd earned more playing time and wanted to give it to him. Lelito and Kelemente were pretty bad.

The plan is still OT.

The Saints still see Peat as tackle down the road. But if he keeps playing well and showing growth, who knows what could happen.

“The long term vision, again, is the way we drafted him and how we see it,” Payton said. “But that can change.”

As long as he starts I could careless if it at OG at OT to be honest.

While I was not all that thrilled with the pick. I never pegged him as a starter at ROT day one. He is not a natural swing OT and was not trained that way. You want to give him a shot of starting tomorrow. a real shot?

Move Armstead to RT and plug Peat at LT. That is all he know and the only position he has ever really played. Plus the times he filled in at LT he looked pretty darn good for a rookie.

I knew this kid will need time to develop outside the LT position.

If he does not hold a starters job and at the very least rate out a serviceable by season end then I would be very worried about this kids long term potential. That was my game plan when we drafted the kid.

Year three he should have it all down pat and roll into camp as a starter was my worse case for him as a RT.

Why haven't we signed Slausen yet?

My guess is that his phone is ringing and he is weighing offers
we have about $3 million, but Loomis can make that work

the other factor is that at 7-9 X 2 we aren't exactly the marquee choice anymore, and maybe not even top 5. If he wants to "win now" we might have difficulty landing him

I'd think Drew would really like to pitch in on this one.

Can the rookie UDFA OG not do the job? We signed like four of them.

You might have answered your question there
Let's hope one can.

Even though we stacked up in OL after the draft, I would still love this signing. It would only leave one spot left to fight for as far as guard is concerned. Make it happen Loomis!

At the guard spot, I'd prefer a seasoned vet over a UDFA and Matt would fill that void... very well.

Re: Bears release Matt Slausen

He is a plug and play player. This seems like a no brainer to me. We have some serviceable backups now but we need at least one starter and I believe he's it. Of course I've never heard of him before but I'm willing to proclaim him the next pro bowler form the Saints.
