On average each team has selected 6 1/2 LSU players since the Saints have been in existence. The Saints have drafted 9.

The truth is, the Saints draft more LSU players than most teams.

So....you take the average of ALL teams and then say the Saints have drafted 9..hmmm..were the Saints not part of the average because that in no way equals the Saints drafting more from LSU.

As a matter of fact, the Saints have drafted 8 players from LSU since 1970. The Falcons for f#cks sake have drafted 10 since 1975.

But all that is besides the point. LSU is not in anyone else's backyard. They are in ours.

Yes, the Saints have taken more than the average. That's evidence that they haven't been avoiding LSU players.

"As a matter of fact, the Saints have drafted 8 players from LSU since 1970. The Falcons for f#cks sake have drafted 10 since 1975."

And 3 other teams have also drafted more LSU players than the Saints. But 24 teams have drafted fewer. That's more evidence the Saints aren't avoiding LSU players.

"But all that is besides the point. LSU is not in anyone else's backyard. They are in ours."

Other than a splash playmaker, teams don't have much incentive to give preference to any local school. It's much more important to get the player you think will improve your team the most, regardless of alma matter, at your pick in the draft.

Edit: As for the dirty birds, we've drafted more Georgia players than they have 10 to 9.
Edit 2: And for Bama fans, the dirty birds have drafted 7 players, the Saints have drafted 8.

How many LSU players have we passed on that are making a big impact in the NFL?

Every damn year someone asks this dumb question. Sean hasnt picked any LSU players because they either had no value or were not a need.
he has had several Louisiana natives via other avenues. Greer, Henderson, Breaux, etc

Easily disproven? 9 freaking players. We've drafted 8 freaking Ohio State players in the last dozen or so years. Nobody is asking them to draft an LSU player every single year. I'm not even saying they HAVE to draft any. The point was that it's weird. At the height of LSU's program, which has been the last 15 years, they've drafted all but two from there.

There is a strong tendency for teams to bring in local players, at least late in drafts, because they are more familiar those players. It doesn't always happen, but it's not uncommon. It is with the Saints. That is indisputable. And there isn't a thing in the world wrong with pointing it out.

He also hates these schools: Air Force, Appalachian St., Arizona, and South Alabama, in which the Saints never drafted a player.

Not really. My first reply was going to be, "Doesn't everybody?" Then (forgetting that LSU doesn't actually even have a math department) I thought I'd throw a little logic out instead. My bad. :-D

I think you missed the initial point our OP was making.

But to answer your question ... Mathieu, Eric Reid, La'el Collins, Jarvis Landry (we chose SJB instead ), & Jeremy Hill were on the board for us just to name a few. Pro bowlers &/or impact players who have serious value & who would fill a need in New Orleans.

I'm all for drafting players across the country regardless of the school, however it is a bit disappointing to see former Tigers making strides and having solid success for other teams when the opportunities were there to select them.

Carry on ;).
