Saints DE Bobby Richardson in For the Fight of His Life

His opponents: not one, not two, but possibly up to three challengers, all of whom could be coming to take his job — starting yesterday with the first day of OTA’s and continuing throughout the entire summer and into the first week of September.

It probably goes without saying that the 23-year old 2nd year and former UDFA signee of last year is in for the proverbial “fight of his life”. And the sad part is that he’s NOT expected to survive.

Re: Saints DE Bobby Richardson in For the Fight of His Life

Hopefully Richardson improves with a full off-season training regimen & some experience. I would prefer to see him on running downs and NOT passing (enter Kikaha). On paper the Saints now have the depth to rotate DL frequently and always keep fresh legs on the field. Again I think rotation will be HUGE.

To say Bobby was a undrafted free agent & come in & be a day one starter ...that says a lot about his effort. It also says a lot about the talent and depth we lacked but still ...the guy was a starter. No where near great by any means but I think he'll continue to get better.

Side note :my dark horse @ camp - > Mabry.

I don't want to nitpick, but the article says Richardson was our designated rush end and that's not true. He was our early down strong side DE who was usually off the field on obvious passing downs.

I also think Onyemata will give Richardson stiff competition at the end.

We may wind up trying Rankins in the rotation at end. We did that with Hicks. Start Fairly and Jenkins at DT and move Rankins inside on passing downs with Kikaha or Edabali rushing from the DE spot.

The headline to this article is a little overboard. I thought he was dying from something before opening the thread

Why is it sad? If he doesnt survive its because we found better. That makes me happy.
