How many years in his career as a DC has he had a top 10 defense

Only twice I believe.

I can understand when someone says Payton had his hand in the defense and that probably wasn't great, however it was Rob Ryans Job to get the defense performing and he failed.

The fact that no one knew how to line up on defense is nothing to do with Payton, that's Rob's job and he used the exact same excuse when Dallas got rid of him.

And if the past two seasons are RR's definition of a "damn good job" ... I hate to see what he would have called a "piss poor job."

The man is dilusional.

If Ryan was able to install his own coaching staff and implement the 3-4 with players that fit the mold, I don't think we would have ranked as low as we did. Now it's Allen with the good ole' boys, I get to see how this goes.

1 in 12 years as a defensive coordinator and 4 in the top 20. NOT A GOOD RECORD AT ALL!

His comments are barely coherent. in one sentence he did a damn good job, and in the next he did his best.
I really don't give a crap what system he ran or was forced to run. Bottom line, players were undisciplined, missing tackles, taking stupid penalties, and always out of position. That sh** should be worked out by Sunday, regardless of the 'system'. Not to mention the 18 times we had too few or too many players on the field

I think that may be our problem on D and have said it before. You can't immulate another teams players unless you have the right personnel installed and that takes a couple years. Payton should have let Ryan do his own thing like Williams did.

And what...Sean wasn't there in 2013? You could also make the case that 2013 (RR's 1st year) was a fluke and had as much to do with Spag's coaching in 2012 (and no I'm not saying it did) and Sean's return. Following 2013 RR had two more years which went from "ballin" to terrible before finally set a new standard in god-awful in 2015.

The nice thing about the NFL is that retread coaches sooner or later have to face reality. If he repeats Dallas and NO in Buffalo...then the final chapter will be written... and RR will have to look in the mirror and tell himself that he sucks.

The biggest mistake that was made was letting Malcolm Jenkins go. The kid was a Pro Bowler in 2010 but got hurt in the 2nd to last game and missed the playoff game against Seattle. If he plays we easily win that game. The system Rob installed was perfect for him but we thought we could find a better fit in Byrd. We are now on the 2nd attempt to replace Malcolm Jenkins. Hopefully we don't make too many more mistakes like that going forward.
