Kikaha - torn ACL

1 Attachment(s)
Defensive end Hau'oli Kikaha suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and could miss the remainder of the season, Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reported Thursday. He was a second-round pick last year and recorded four sacks in his rookie season with the Saints. He tore his ACL twice in college at Washington

Its not even TC and we take a hit at our weakest position on our best prospect.

Anyone else feel like we're cursed again?

This sucks.

Wee the good news is that we have about 5 promising guys fighting for that position.

The bad news is that TC hasn't even started yet, down to 4.

Well, now you see why it's important for offense to get better.

One player out and we are done? If that was the case we would have been done anyway. Still time to find a quality player to take his spot for a year. Find a veteran for a year. Who knows how bad it is anyway. Players have come back from it in one season in the past

On a brighter note, Carolina lost their number 1 WR at this point and still made the Superbowl on a 15-1 regular season run.

Re: Kikaha - torn ACL

Pretty fair take on it from WalterFootball:

Saints DE/OLB Hau'oli Kikaha out for season (torn ACL): 7/10 Disaster Rating
When the Saints spent a second-round pick on Hau'oli Kikaha, it was widely considered a reach because of how injury-prone the Washington product was. Kikaha tore his ACL twice in college and was considered to be a major health risk. The Saints took a chance on Kikaha, but it appears as though that decision is backfiring because Kikaha tore his ACL a third time today.

New Orleans had big plans for Kikaha this year, as he was supposed to be one of its primary pass-rushers. The Saints will obviously have to look elsewhere now. Kikaha wasn't considered a great player - he was just OK as a rookie - and if this were some other player, the Disaster Grade would be much lower. However, I have to make it a 7/10 because of Kikaha's history. A third ACL tear could make it so Kikaha never reaches his potential, and it also shows that he's not as durable as the Saints were hoping he would become in the pros.

Edabali, Tull & Gwacham ... here is a golden opportunity to shine.

We also drafted Tull in that draft. He better show what he can do or he was a bad pick.

What exactly are your expectations in year #2 from a 5th rounder who was on IR in 2015 ?

I like Davis Tull. I taught Martial Arts at UTC where Tull played so I have an affinity for the young man.

His measurable are all good which means he's athletic. He's from a small college which dropped him down in the draft and his hip injury dropped him further down the draft boards. That same injury landed him on IR where he's had a chance to learn the system and be involved with an NFL weight training program for a year. He will be able to focus on mini camps and training camps this year without being a wide eyed rookie.

If healthy Tull could see significant playing time and could be a pleasant surprise for Saints fans. His game film is impressive and he has a high ceiling.

He tore it twice in college. In 2011 and 2013.

I'm hearing it was, but it was fine for 3 years, well until now.

Re: Kikaha - torn ACL

Well it really just hurts some of our 3-4 pass rush packages. We can always revert to a traditional 4-3 with Jordan/Richards/Oneyamata/Pettway/ playing DE in our base.

We lost a good one, but the cupboard isn't bare.

What is it with Saints medical evaluations - "just rub some dirt on it, he'll be fine?!?" WTF?

Like to hear details on how he injured it...but this is a third strike, pretty serious for Kikaha...

We'll be awfully thin on the defensive line if this keeps us; Jordan already had back surgery this offseason...

Silver lining is that we have very "versatile" defensive linemen that can line up and down the defensive line...

IF this is the worst that happens this season, we'll be alright; Davis Tull will get the chance to show his mettle...

And Edebali (show some respect and spell the man's name correctly or just call him "the Turk" ) is entering his third season, so he may blow up as well...

Don't think we need any more tired-*ss veterans like Freeney; just have Harper eat more pizza and let him blitz from the 7T...;)
