Or a 6-3, 240 Davis Tull?
Or a 6-2, 253 Kasim Edebali?
Or a 6-2, 258 Junior Galette?

Yeah not to mention Davis Tull has T Rex arms. However, we need Gwacham to look like Tarzan AND play like Tarzan so here's hoping he can bring it.

I wouldn't rule out the smaller guys yet.

Definitely not... Tull is gonna put some serious heat on QB's this season. It's just good to know that one of the guys has the prototypical size; that won't matter though if he doesn't have the intensity.

Indeed. Kikaha brought the intensity, we'll definitely miss that this year. Hopeful for Gwachum though. We have a lot of new position coaches this year and if they can tap into the potential of guys like him and Onyemata we could have a freak nasty D-line in the next couple of years.

Re: Minicamp Practice Updates

Gwachum did play defensive end at Oregon State, RR moved him to outside linebacker.

He should feel right at home with the switch back to his favored position

And Gwachum benched 225 22 times to Kikaha's 20 pre-draft, and ran a 4.7 40 to Kikaha's 4.9...

Ever heard of sparq scores? Its supposed to be a combination of physical measurements and performance metrics from the combine. Its kinda like a QB rating but for all NFL prospects and I've heard its pretty accurate.

I don't know much about the details but I did read that Davis Tull ranked #1 out of all the edge players in the 2015 draft, despite his shorter arms.

I need to read more about it. Anyone else familiar with it?

It's another attempt within Sports Sabremetrics to try to predict how good an athlete will be...

While it does help to check the boxes, what's between the ears and beating in the chest still can only be measured with followup interviews, at best...

At the end of the day, a good scout/coach will go and watch, say a wide receiver for example, how does he get off the line and is he "sudden" in his breaks on consistent, discipline routes...

With regards to Tull, I would like to have seen the Saints try in the past offseason for him to take a shot at MLB, with his speed and burst, that's be real asset in the middle...

I'm speaking more of football weight distribution; muscle is ~2.5 times that of fat; but you need bulk, that sand in the pants to anchor against blockers...

Picking up an 80 lbs box that is 4 ' X 4' X 4' vs picking up a 95 lbs barbell with friendly grips kinda thing...

And playing DE in college is waaay different than playing DE in the NFL...

Look, the guy has me intrigued and it's impressive that he's taken coaching advice and moved to a different position and worked to build his body...

Cautiously optimistic that Gwachum can challenge, but it's a straight up observation that the guy is just raw-bone...

But as I said in earlier posts, I'm more excited by the number of players we can rotate in that front four...

We don't need a down lineman to play 85% of the snaps; we can rotate people for mismatches and keep the horses fresh to the fourth quarter...

Yeah, that one would be a good comparison, the others have more bulk...

PJ Williams has been a beast and Davis Tull has picked up a couple of would-be sacks.

Yeah, I've read from numerous "draft gurus" that Tull's get-off is just unbelievably fast.

TommyLee Lewis does a lot of little things right, has good speed, runs crisp routes and uses body to hold off D & come back to ball.

Yeah, he was the jack of all trades master of none at Bama. I had to double check because I didn't even recognize the name. Maybe now that he can focus on doing one thing well instead of being the baseball equivalent of the "utility infielder" he can hone in on his skills.

Probably still a longshot, as is the edge rusher from Bama, DJ Pettway. He has also flashed in camp.

Hey, stranger things have happend; Tom Brady backed up Brian Griese at Michgan as 7th on the depth chart!

When he finally did start, he had to have a psychologist help him deal with competing against Drew Henson for the starting job!

Like Dillon Lee's overall athleticism and football IQ; I think he's got a decent chance...
