Glad to see the Saints addressing defense finally... At least Smith plays on the right side of the ball.

Without making any comment about whether Smith is right or not, I will say that the entire Tebucky Jones saga has been somewhat troubling. Two years ago the word was that the Saints pursued Jones heavily and negotiated all offseason to bring him in b/c that\'s the guy Jim Haslett wanted. In only two years the team has decided that he\'s such a bust that they\'re openly pursuing other options. Meanwhile, they shrug off LB like it\'s no big deal. That kind of behavior has me concerned on a number of levels.

Yet no word on the departure of Sully! At least Tesucky has seen the field, but in Sully\'s time here he can\'t even seem to get his fat a$$ outta the pregame buffet!

Paying a \"professional athlete\" so much money to sit around and eat himself fatter is ridiculous, a little sad, and incredibly disheartening.

This is why we\'re signing D. Smith, he\'s gonna help with Sully\'s professed offseason conditioning.

ANybody think TeBusky out played Sammy Knight the last two seasons?

In the last two seasons, Knight had 98 tackles (each year) and 7 INTs. His last two years as a Saint and Sammy had 200 total tackles (100 each year) and 11 INTs.

Tebucky Jones had a whopping 69 tackles in 2003 and 1 INT. Last season, thanks to an entire offseason of practice, he missed about 50% fewer tackles and actually had 101 in 2004. Only 1 INT again though. Guess what - this past season was Tebucky\'s BEST EVER. That\'s right.

I seem to remember certain people praising the Saints moves this offseason, bashing Knight when he left and talking about how Tebucky would shore up the defensive backfield.

What was Sammy Knight making? $600,000 a year? A million? Glad we got rid of that over the hill bum. Now what are the Saints looking for? A ball hawk!!!!! Are you f---ing kidding me?

Unreal.

Hey we\'re also looking for an OLB.

Hmmm...

2001, Saints acquire OLB Charlie Clemons. 2001, Charlie Clemons leads the team in tackles and sacks with 93 and 13.5 respectively. 2002, Saint move Clemons to MLB. Clemons numbers drop dramatically. Why did they move Clemons inside? B/c Hodge was the answer outside. 2003, after a subpar stint at MLB the Saints do what? Cut Clemons.

Am I suggesting that Clemons is a great OLB. Not at all. But he certainly seemed to be pretty damn good in Ron Zook\'s attacking style defense. It\'s about value and roll players playing great... even when the Saints find that they don\'t know what to do with it - Clemons and Knight are just two examples.

Nope. Even without the stats you provided, I\'m pretty sure Knight\'s been some painful hindsight for alot of folks.

Interesting comments about Clemons. I\'d forgotten that season he put in at OLB. I can\'t find him anywhere on NFL.com\'s player pages, so maybe we can get him back!
