tommy polley???

somebody got news wheater the saints are interested in signing him ?
i saw the rams picked up some good Lbs (chris claiborne e.g.)
i'd like to see them bringing him in along with trading up the draftboard to sign DJ...boy that would be one helluva LB corps with developing watson
at least i would allow the saints to draft the best player available

Polley has good height at almost 6\'4\", but he is a bit light for a starting LB at 218 lbs.

Polley:
Quote:

Tommy Polley UFA Rams – His play has been up and down since being drafted by the Rams in the second round in 2001. Polley has played all three linebacker positions and has good quickness and ability but isn’t strong at the point of a attack which is a trait that is symptomatic of all their linebackers. He hasn’t shown that he’s capable of being an impact player but is good enough to warrant a starting job likely on the weak side.
At least he has some playing experience compared to our LBs with a whole 3 years of experience, but he doesn\'t exactly qualify as vetran leadership for our extremely young group of LBs. He also sounds a good deal like the guys we\'ve got.

I\'d just as soon try and get Fujita. Witherspoon and Hartwell are starting to seem to me to be the only real impact backers left available - barring a trade for Howard.

I\'m pretty sure we\'ll be getting the BPA with our first pick either way. I\'d like to see us trade down, pick up an extra second rounder and probably take a DT in the first round and go for those other quality LBs in the second round (since I think there is no non-super-costly way to get DJ); I guess, I\'m not buying the Sullivan turn around yet.

Bockwoldt, IMHO, hasn\'t proven that he can be an impact player. I like his heart and his range, but we really have yet to see what he can do. He is also a bit undersized.

Here is a scouting report:
Quote:

ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a lean, athletic build with long arms, developing muscles and a frame with the potential for additional growth … Intelligent player who is effective at jamming the tight end at the line of scrimmage … Shows good lateral agility and the quickness to make plays wide … Has a sharp closing burst on the play side … Breaks down properly in the open when runners change direction and has the quickness to catch the backs from behind … Goes low in his stance, extending his arms to wrap, secure and drive the opponent back on his heels … Has good field awareness dropping back in the zone … His pass drop skills and fluid backpedal allow him to stay on the receiver\'s hip when operating in the deep half of the field in zone coverage.

Negatives: Gets suckered out of position at times, having problems with misdirection … Will finesse rather than try to maul blockers (does not have enough strength to defeat the more physical linemen), which results in him getting tied up by some blocks when trying to shed … Better flowing to the play side than from behind … Drives for depth with good angle in his pass drops, but keeps his feet a little narrow handling the switch-off in the zone … Does not have natural hands for the interception.
I\'m not knocking the kid, but there is a reason that he was projected to be (and became) a 7th round pick.

PS - My problem is more with starting Allen than with starting Bockwoldt. If Bockwoldt were to get huge (in the good way) in the offseason such that he could play the strong side or MLB, then I may change my tune more radically.

I like Buckwoldt. He\'s the Saints next Sammy Knight. Late round pick who will play above his station year in and year out - that\'s my bet. I like the kid. Smart, determined, rangy... and like spk said - all he does is make tackles.

Bockwoldt\'s a keeper. Comes cheap, and earns more than his check every week. When so many players on our team don\'t earn half of what they\'re paid, Bockwoldt\'s a refreshing sight.

I like him, too. He\'s just one of those guys you wanna pull for.
