You still have to play well against whomever is out there. Our 1st string guys did just that.

We have far more than a couple of players that are improved this year @ pre season game #1 vs last season.

This team is headed in the right direction (specifically on defense), but to say you have seen nothing is quite surprising.

I agree. We definitely have some players that are definitely better than what we previously have had. The Pre Season isn't really the best indicator, simply because we didn't even face Brady, Edelman or Gronk last night.
However, I will admit our 1st Team D looked more cohesive than last year. And the new front four on D, definitely had more pressure. I'll wait until Preseason Game #3 to make my judgment.

Preseason game 3 should give a decent indication of what we really have. I didn't get to see the game but listened to the 1st half. From what was said the D seems to still be giving yards up to running plays and alot of dump offs to rb.'s and TE's, thats not what I wanted to hear, our lb'ers need to do much better in that area and our front 4 also. Tackling needs improvement too. Brady would have eaten that up if it was a real game. 5 yrds a carry by any team will wear our D out early and we all know how that goes. Penetration seemed better from what was said so that was a plus.

Re: The future look bright!!

Some of the players looked great and it's easy to get excited but I understand the posters that are not impressed with what they saw. Just my opinion but last years biggest problem on defense was stopping the run and there wasn't anything Thursday night to suggest they've gotten any better.

2015 vs run - 4.9 ypa
Thursday vs run - 5.0 ypa

I'll remain optimistic and believe they'll get better as they gel.

The other thing about the future looking bright...

We aren't set up to win in the future we are set to win NOW. Bree's isn't getting any younger. We don't have a replacement on our roster for when he does that was evident.

Our future looks like 8-8, 7-9, 8-8, 8-8, 7-9.

Oh that is very fair!

I mean you can even say nothing really matters until we see them in regular season games. All we have to really judge is the guys who are on the bubble of making this team. Some of them looks great but you can also see the issues that have plagued us over the past few years still here and that should still cause for concern.

Our 1st string running back fumbled on a 2 yard carry near the red zone.

this team has got to get over the penalty/turnover and lack of takeaway stereotype in order to be competitive.

Re: The future look bright!!

It looks bright, but only if...
They find a way to get on the + side of the turnover ratio,
They run stop a lot better,
They open field tackle like the other guy stole something...
Brees stays healthy.
