Growing list

Rankins
Lewis
Breaux
Anthony
Byrd
Kikaha
Jenkins
Swann

No, that's not the starting lineup, it's who is injured right now.

Did we ever get a new strength & conditioning coach?

I knew it wasn't the starting lineup as soon as I saw Byrd

Everyone on that list aside from Rankins and Kikaha are going to play week 1.
Bumps happen along the way.

I don't think so. Head S&C coach (Dalrymple) has held that title for years down in New Orleans.

I have often thought the problem partly lies in S&C program.

It's not like other teams are skating by without injuries.

In the end, these type of things tend to even out between teams even though it might seem like it's our team that is constantly facing injury problems.

One thing that might be skewing things somewhat is that the Saints seem to have been willing to take gambles on players with injury histories (i.e. Byrd, Spiller, Butler, Spencer, etc.) trying to repeat what they did with Brees. And also drafting players with injury histories in the college (i.e. Kikaha, Romeus, Sunseri, etc.) hoping those injuries were all in the past.

This is where depth comes in. Good teams have quality players to step in when someone goes down. Up until now we haven't had that. It's been a huge drop off and just one player could change the way the whole defense functions. I think we got better in this department for the most part on defense and that can go a long way later in the season.
