Saints hopeful Andrus Peat's return to RG stabilizes OL

The New Orleans Saints offensive line has experienced its share of struggles through two preseason games.

Quarterbacks Drew Brees, Luke McCown and Garrett Grayson have combined for four sacks, and Brees has been on the receiving end of jarring hits.

But coach Sean Payton remains hopeful the starting offensive line will stabilize soon with left tackle Terron Armstead's return, which allows Andrus Peat to move back to right guard.

With Armstead missing parts of training camp with an injury, the Saints called upon second-year pro Peat to play left tackle. The shuffling of the 6-foot-7, 316-pound Peat from right guard to left tackle may have contributed to some of the issues present in the first two preseason games.

"It's one of the things we talked about," Payton said Monday. "Guard and tackle is one thing, but when it's left side of the ball and right side of the ball, your stance changes."

This is just my thoughts but wouldn't it seem a little easier for Peat to play LG since he played LT in college and then if Armstead missed some games slide him in at LT so his feet don't get confused.

Good Idea. Saints kind did the same thing with Jim Dombrowski, but he went from Tackle to Guard, but stayed on the same side of the line...

I'm thinking it might be more likely that Strief misses time than Armstead given his age. In that case it does make more sense, using your logic, that he remains at RG.

I do worry about Strief this season more than any other season he has been solid over the years but Peat has had bad trouble playing RT before and RG. Lelito could pull RG duties but I don't think he's able to play RT at a high level. There is noone really behind Strief I see being able to do his job.

It has to do with long term plans. Hopefully Armstead is the starting LT the next 10-12 years. Peat will probably never play that position for the Saints other than in an emergency. Therefor its better to play him at RG so he can get used to that side.

Peat will be okay at guard. The staff blew it thinking Lelito or Kelemete could hold down the other spot. They're backups in the NFL. Not starters.

All this means is lets hope we don't need to play Peat at the Tackle positions because then we are doomed.

I'd rather have Strief face Kalil Mack than Andrus Peat

We'll be carting Brees off if Peat is going against Mack.

if he is going to take over at RT next this is where he needs to be. He should have been playing RG all year last year. gotta get the reps to get use to setting up and moving to his right. last year he got a glimpse of playing OG so this year should be all about fine tuning his skill set.

we will have a good idea by week 8 if he will be able to jump outside in year 3
