Saints defense is better no doubt, but how good are they? Big Ben, Steelers will tell us more

It’s still early.

Probably too early.

But that hasn’t stopped Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux from being optimistic.

“I laugh and I smile every day on my way home just knowing that we are better than we were last year,” the cornerback said. “By far.”

Yes, Breaux is right about that.

The Saints defense is indeed better, at least based on what we’ve seen in training camp and through the first two games of preseason.

But that’s like a tourist on Bourbon Street boasting that he is more sober his second time than he was the first time he visited NOLA.

It would be hard for the Saints defense not to be better than they were last season, when it ranked at the bottom or near the bottom in most defensive categories.

But if you were giving the starting defense a grade through two games, they deserve probably somewhere between a B (if you’re lenient) and a C.

And that’s a big improvement from last year when giving them an F may have seemed a little too nice at times.

So is the defense better? Definitely.

This will be a good test for Breaux (Antonio Brown).

Meanwhile Craig Robertson is very familiar with the tendencies of Big Ben R.

And he's intercepted Ben a bunch of times too.
