Are the Saints Player Personnel Soft Under Payton?

When it comes to Offensive strategy and game planning, Sean Payton has few, if any, contemporaries; but you see headlines and tweets such as these, do thoughts of the Saints being soft creep into your field of Saints Vision?

I wanted say the concussions are soft. Thats just getting hit at the right/wrong place

I would say the team is soft and has no nasty streak running through it. By nasty im not talking Galette/Hardy nasty i mean Steve Smith type leave it on the field, get in players faces type nasty. Too many players with 'character issues' have been looked over because the front office seems scarred to have anything controversial since bountygate. Its all nice boys in the dressing room. Get a few Steve Smiths,Vontaze Burfict,Incognito in there. All three could have been had and had cheap over the past few years too

I think we've been soft for years. Our players are made of glass.

I've pointed to one example in the past and I'll use it again

In 2015 we needed desperate help at corner, brandon browner obviously showed us he was not the answer. However we had a chance to address it before it even became an issue and guess what we did?

We passed on Defensive rookie of the year Marcus Peters and drafted Andrus Peat instead, all because Peters had some issues, KC are reaping the rewards now though.

I think we have had a good couple drafts, but they could be much better if SP wasn't afraid to take calculated risks like he used to.

Maybe im over pessimistic but im really worried were this team is going. Its starts from the very top. Im not sure there is anyone running the team at the moment. The ownership needs sorting because as it stands Loomis and Paytin have no pressure. I really do believe they could go 3-13 and still be in a job. The owner needs to be in a frame of mind to run the team and make decisions. I love what Paytons done but there has been a terrible defense there for the best part of a decade bar the odd year and ultimately thats on the HC not just a succession of DC to sort out. While so many DCs have been thrown under the bus other 'loyal/friendly" position coaches have got away with terrible performances. I think fundamental change is needed from top to bottom and id honestly teally consider change allround after this year. The coaches messages either are not getting through or the players are just not listening anymore. This always happens after a coach has spent long spells with clubs, something needs freshening up and its the staff or players. But as i said until the ownership is sorted its a ship without a captain.

I honestly dont think he has been the same since tbe suspension. I dont think the franchise as a whole has. The seem to scared to take risks

We're a finesse offense... Typically that type of team is soft.

After the past few crappy drafts we cant afford to take any risks. I guess they felt Peat was the saftest pick and maybe not the BPA.

But for a team with little cap space and so many needs drafting a LT and pushing him to G where he is looking terrible when you have one of the top 3 LT in the league is plain stupidity

Exactly!!

Further to that point, you draft Stephone Anthony to be your anchor and leader on D.

Sure the kid makes a couple of mistakes here and there but he's a rookie, he had to learn the system better than anyone and then line everyone else up.

So how do we repay him for the first Saints rookie LB since the dome patrol to log 100 tackles?

That's right....we sign a 32 year old replacement and shift a promising rookie to a different spot.

It gets too much every year, hearing we are shifting players around, draft for your needs. Don't draft a LT if you already have a top 3 LT.
