this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I think the Jags situation with Howard was exhausted when they signed Heyward. I would hope that the team still plans to deal Howard. I would even take a low ball offer for him(3rd round or lower). I just think ...

I think the Jags situation with Howard was exhausted when they signed Heyward. I would hope that the team still plans to deal Howard. I would even take a low ball offer for him(3rd round or lower). I just think that the incremental benefit for having him here is not worth the salary that he would recieve. In other words, his overall contribution would not justify his salary. Sure the D would definitely be better with him and Will Smith in the lineup, but we could use that money on developing rookies who will be with the team past 2005.

The reality of it all... is that Howard stays or we get raped. Saints won\'t get much for him at this point and no one really needs A DE. He has been very productive but not a key player who has help our D overall. We shouldn\'t have got into this contract situation, we need to get him a long term contract. Keeping him actually does us more good than not.

PS You love the Saints so much... have they ever loved ya back?

Wow. Seriously? Did they go out of style or something? I can name at least 10 teams that could strongly use a DE.

i thought DE was one of the most needed positions in the league. guess im wrong. i saw i think on espn.com that there was at least one NFC team in talks with us. and that our asking price was a second round pick. well that would eliminate the jags because they arent an nfc team anyway. as of now i think we are in good shape with the guy. we can trade him if someone wants him or we can keep him and he plays for us and produces as much as he can because he is a free agent next year again. i like keeping him or trading him for a draft pick. in my opin. we cant loose

Your team stinks

Darren Howard’s name has once again popped up this week, involved in several different trade rumors. Howard has been rumored to be the center of attention for several teams in the NFL that covet a strong defensive end to anchor their line.
As far as the Darren Howard situation goes, all my sources are reporting that a handful of teams are still inquiring about him, with a few solid offers. Don’t expect the Saints to deal him simply to get rid of him, but if the right offer comes along, then sources are reporting that he is available.
