Saints great Rickey Jackson doubtful defense will be any better this season
 

I don't like disagreeing with a cornerstone of the Saints Mt. Rushmore, but IMO, if injuries don't become an issue, the defense will be substantially improved.

Not saying they will be the second coming of the Bears 46 defense, but this defense will win games for us.

What could go wrong... We have so many 1st and 2nd year guys on defense that it may just be too much youth and not enough experience

Time will tell
I think it looks a bit better on paper and there looks more of a pass rush on the interior but it still looks short on rotation.

Some games the secondary will look good others it wont. Its still very young and if the front 7 dont get pressure then i can see Williams ad whoever is the 3rd CB getting abused.

It looks better but i persoanlly think its a year of being good

I think the disconnect here is that we were one of the worst defenses in the NFL for 2 years straight and still finished with 7 wins because of an elite offense. Well the offense looks as good or better than it was the last 2 years and the defense has added much more talent both in players and coaching so logic says (on paper) we should easily improve on those 7 wins.

The schedule (on paper) does look a bit tougher, so I wouldn't be shocked to see a disappointing 8-8 season, but I think a 10 win season is more likely.

TE's - Same (maybe a slight drop since Watson played lights out in 2015)
O-line - Same
DT's - Better
DE's - Better
LB's - Much better
CB's - Better (although injuries are a major concern)
SS - Better
FS - Better

How can anyone say we didn't improve as a team?

Added emphasis. I think that's an area that's going to help tremendously that nobody's really talking about.

Love Rickey Jackson, disappointed in the timeliness of his criticism...

That said, we had one of the worst defenses ever (at that time) and were top 7 the next season under, yep, Rob Ryan...

I wasn't happy that we just threw the 3-4 movement and some of it's players out with the washwater, but, Dennis Allen, and the fruits will bear, has taken charge and put a stamp on this defense...

The coaching and the leadership is much improved - One Singular Defensive Coach/Leader, addition of Aaron Glenn and attention of Sean Payton will have a positive impact on this team...

So let's wait till Week 4 to see if the new scheme and coaching has this defense in the right direction...
