Q&A with Joe Horn

HONOLULU -- New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Horn is known for trash talking almost as much a coming up with a clutch grab

He was fifth in the NFC with 88 catches for 1,312 yards and 7 touchdowns and doesn't hesitate to mix it up with the opposition.

Here's a little bit of what he had to say about a variety of subjects as he prepares for the Pro Bowl on Sunday.

Q. Who's the best overall receiver, not named Joe Horn, in the league right now?

A. Marvin Harrison. He gets 30 attempts a game. He ends up with 150 balls at the end of the year. The stats, that's what makes him the best.

Q. If you could play for any coach, past or present, who would it be?

A. Dan Reeves. He's been through the ranks. He's had some of the best guys around and I've heard the way he practices. It's old school, new school. He likes to blend it in.

Q. Have you always been a trash talker or did something happen in your career to trigger it?

A. I've always talked trash. Always, competition-wise.

Q. Who's the best trash talker in the league, aside from yourself of course?

A. I'm not the biggest trash talker. There are a few guys, (Warren) Sapp. I would have to say Kyle Turley.

Q. On the golf course, are you more like Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson?

A. Tiger. I go for it on some shots. On a par 5 on my second shot, and it's 245 out, I'm taking my 3-iron, 3-wood out like Tiger and going for it. I like to go for difficult shots. Some guys play it very smart at times, but I like to play it smart and I try to go for the difficult shots to get ahead.

Q. Was the league right for cracking down on big hits by safeties or was the issue blown out of proportion?

A. If it's part of the game, it's part of the game. It's hard for a defensive person, linebacker, D-back, whatever to slow down when they're coming up on contact. It's been in the game for years, why stop now? We're making more money now, more benefits. They didn't have rules like that back in the day, why have them now?

Q. A rookie once played a practical joke by placing a snake in your locker. How did the fear of snakes develop?

A. I just don't like snakes. I never have, even from just watching Animal Kingdom. Are snakes worse then flying? Nah, they're like second worst. I can't stand snakes. Can't stand them.

Q. How do you feel about the current overtime format?

A. I think they should change it. They should give both teams a chance to score. If one team comes down and scores a field goal and the other a touchdown, it's over. You need to give both teams a chance to score. I don't care how long we stay out there.

Q. If there's one think you could change about the NFL, what would it be?

A. The fines. They fine us for ridiculous (stuff). Ten thousand dollars for saying the wrong thing; $15,000 for having your socks pulled down. If I'm in a football game and my jersey is hanging out, I get fined $5,000. It's BS.
