MB is a 2ND team All Pro with skins on the wall. I'd say he's substantially better than anything we've had at the corner position in years.

If there is a way we could get him, keep our rd 1 and 2 picks, we could truly go bpa after the signing of Alex. Could u imagine a luxury pick like LF, Williams or Howard at 11????!! Cb is deep so one in rd 2 is possible. Safety at 32 is also possible with the depth. After jones torn Achilles we could steal him in rd 6 and sit him the season. Dwayne Thomas in rd 7. Oooooo I'm starting to get a chubby

Pick 42 is more than adequate for Butler. If not, use 3 of the first 4 picks (11, 32, 42, and 76) on defensive needs. Look for a playmaker with the other. Pretty simple.

Actually, his agent said nothing has been discussed about contracts since LAST year.

“The Patriots haven’t approached Malcolm about his contract since last year, and anything that says he keeps asking for the moon is completely false,” Simpson said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

Rhodes is top tier talent-wise, but he's had a lot of nagging injuries these past seasons.

I would certainly trade the 32nd 1st rounder for Rhodes in a heartbeat. Not so sure about Butler, since I don't really watch the Patriots play.

You're right K. Wasn't meaning to downplay what he can bring to the team. I just hope we don't overpay for him. I hope we can get this guy.

just what i said last year meaning 2016. they talked and the pats did not think he was worth it and walked away. Butler has not budged. The pats will not let him go for chump change. they know his name is worth money. So they tagged him.

They will let him play at just under 4 million in 2017. They will let him walk in 2018 as a UFA and take whatever comp pick they can get. if his agent does not lower his demands in 2017 . The pats will not be spending big bucks next year. The gilmore signing and other moves show this is a year were the pats are going to try for another super bowl run before Tom leaves the game for good.

This is the patriot way of doing business. No player will strong arm them in contract talks.

Re: Film Study: If Saints Trade for Malcolm Butler, What Are They Getting?

The market for cornerbacks has not corrected since the landmark Darrelle Revis deal - last of the true shutdown CBs...

Butler has played extremely well within the Patiots' scheme and is deservedly justified a healthy contract...

But this is the thing - Are we going to commit $13 mil/annum to a proven cornerback, though not a shutdown cornerback?

The premium in this league will always be the quarterback; and once proven, their annual salarys balloon over the $20mil/annum QB Mendoza line...

But is a good CB justified of over $13 mil/annum when the salary cap has to be spread out over 53 players (well top 51)?

Again, keep in mind you don't get shutdown services with that figure.

And also factor you've got big question marks opposite Cam Jordan on the defensive line at weakside DE and outside linebacker.

Not to mention starting Tight End, Free Safety and risky signing at Right Guard...

I'd rather have more chances in the draft and select younger, faster, stronger players for my defense...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Dont know what your getting at about a starting TE.

Fleener has just put up nearly 1700 yards and over 10 TDs last season*

I don't know what I would give up until I know the price he wants.

I want both our first rounders to be used by us in the draft. I like that maybe we can package something to even move up and snag the RB before Panthers get him because I don't want to have to deal with stopping that guy in our division.
