Why draft a QB when you don't need one for another four years? And, why not take the flyer on a DE who has tons of potential? If they didn't someone else would have in the remaining 50 picks or so.

Yeah that last pick seems like a hail mary, but that's what 6th and 7th round picks are for.

We don't need Boldin for the role he plays now.

Yep, low risk, high reward.

Likely a PS candidate.

I respect Mayock a lot more than that big haired dude on ESPN.

I like the Trey Hendrickson pick, I just hope he doesn't turn out like Davis Tull.

Tull had a high sack count and didn't last a year with us.
That's what I'm afraid of. When I watch him that's who he reminds me of.

Apparently we were going to draft Mahomes if Lat didn't fall so I'd say we know we need someone.

Re: We drafted 6 of Mayocks top 70

I'm left with a few impressions of the past couple of days. The first which is no way everyone's leaving here happy. There is no way we're grabbing every great player off the board. You'll always have to pass some over to pick one. Part of passing those over has to be a consideration of who we already have on the team. I think we did a good job of fixing the cracks.

The second is some folks thinking that we should consider the schools these kids are coming out of. Do they really want a winning team or a "home" team? This just astounds me.

The third impression I sort of wish I had was Forever's gif bumping into my eye.

The fourth impression was how much fun the draft is when watched with a bunch of like/half/drunk/catnipped minded fans. There's like four local whodats around here. I'm glad this forum's around to be able to make that happen.

Here is the story that you must be referring to ...

Mickey Loomis: Patrick Mahomes was only QB who would've tempted Saints in Round 1

The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to the 10th pick in the draft Thursday night to pick Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Part of the reason the Chiefs made the deal was to move ahead of the New Orleans Saints at No. 11, and apparently, the decision was justified.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said Friday his team rated cornerback Marshon Lattimore, the eventual 11th pick, higher than Mahomes, but the possibility of adding Mahomes would've been tempting if Lattimore didn't fall to No. 11.

"I would say it was possible, but once Lattimore was available to us, there wasn't much of a decision to make," Loomis said. "But, look, we did; we liked Patrick Mahomes a lot. I think that's a really good pick by Kansas City."

The Saints didn't have much of a decision to make because Mahomes was off the board by the time they were on the clock.

Loomis confirmed his approach to finding Drew Brees' eventual successor, too. Even though they don't want to reach for a long-term investment at the position, had the Saints found a quarterback they were enamored with, they wouldn't hesitate to use a first-round pick.

In the 2017 draft, the only quarterback who fit that profile was Mahomes, Loomis said.
Now exactly where in the whole article does it state that the Saints were going to select Mahomes if Lattimore wasn't there at #11? The fact is that it doesn't. It does state that Mahomes was the ONLY QB that would have tempted them. Yet, you state it as fact that he was going to be selected at #11. I'm sure they would have wanted to have others believe that to help push Lattimore down to them.

This absolutely drives me crazy. People constantly read things into pieces in the media that are simply not there. Being a temptation does not mean that it would have happened. If you found a wallet with $10,000 in it you would be tempted to keep it. Does that mean you would? No.
