TWO-COACH DRILL

The Saints' Jim Haslett and the Steelers' Bill Cowher -- the only head coaches who came to Tallahassee -- get a close-up of wideout Dominic Robinson during the wide receivers' drills. Cowher usually tries to make it to a handful of pro days. "I like watching these guys work out, how they compete, how they finish drills," he says
PRODUCING ON PRO DAY
Among the 21 departing seniors who worked out at Florida State's Pro Day last week, three players stood out most according to two NFL scouts. (Times and measurements are unofficial).
Player Pos. Report
Alex Barron OT Ran a 4.82 40, had a vertical jump of 28 inches and . Nineteen reps might not sound impressive until you consider how much extension Barron had to get with his 38.5-inch arms. did 19 reps in the 225-pound bench press
Bryant McFadden CB Ran a 4.41 40 and had the best performances in the vertical jump (39.5 inches) and broad jump (11 feet, 3 inches). That kind of spring should help McFadden, who is just under 6-0, win a lot of jump balls against the NFL's bigger receivers.

Travis Johnson DT For a big man (6-3 7/8, 296), Johnson's 4.87 clocking in the 40 was impressive. " He has to learn to play more consistently ," one scouts says, "but he's athletic and can move real well."

HANDS-ON ASSIGNMENT

Vikings defensive line coach Brian Baker puts defensive tackle Travis Johnson through a 30-second hand deflection drill. The purpose is to test Johnson's reaction and balance. When Baker puts his hands on Johnson, the player is supposed to knock them off. But Johnson becomes a bit feisty -- he even knocks Baker's cap off -- much to the delight of the students and fans who watch

btw this should be added:

Players ran outdoors on a very, very fast rubber Tartan track. Many players ran their 40s with shoes that had nubs, which helps get better traction and lends to faster times.
