I see both of them as more of a gamble than Hendrickson where we picked him up. Both Peppers and Charleton are described as "tweeners". Peeppers doesn't have a defined position at all and Taco is too small for a DE and too slow for a OLB. While either, or both, may end up being solid, why waste an early pick on either when you feel really good about what you have on your board.

Tamba Hali is out there on his social media right now sounding like he wants out of Kansas City if you think we need a short-term upgrade at DE across from Jordan.

I think Okafor is the plan coming off the edge opposite Cam for 2017. Then there is Kikaha (hopefully 100%), Gwachum, Trey & Muhammad.

Who in their right mind is comparing Hendrickson to Watt? They dont even play the same position different size what is there to compare? Rob Ninkovich sounds like a realistic comparison but out of those three thats where I would stop.

It's stretching it a bit to say the guys we picked aren't going to be around for long while the guys we didn't pick will be...
I dont think you fully understood my post. "Being Around" was being on the Saints team NOT the Nfl. And I never said the other players would be around longer, but I dont think its a stretch to say a player that was clearly better than another playing the same positon will have a longer stay in the League. Actually makes all the sense in the world.

Re: Back to the Past....Just Briefly!

Trey Hendrickson would have been available in the 4th or 5th rd I believe. We got him in the 3rd correct?

Re: Back to the Past....Just Briefly!

My thing is was the formula used to improve the defense remained the same. That obviously hasnt worked for us. So Im hoping I am 100% wrong. Im not going to be sold on this defense until week 4 or 5. Ive had enough kool-aid. Im going to try some water instead aka Reality. You all can think and believe what you want thats your right as a person. I have no issues with that, but Im not buying what the Saints are selling defensively not just yet at least. Hypebeast no longer. Im waiting for consistency before I stand by a Saints defense.

Rell, not seeing how we put defense on the back burner in this draft...

Saints took Lattimore with the first pick, two of the first three picks were defense, and five our of our total seven picks were defense...

I'd been banging the table for Hendrickson right where we took him, though I'd admit I thought we'd take a DE sooner...

But when you look at our haul on paper, we addressed every need we had on defense CB, DE and FS - And don't forget about the coaching upgrades as well...

Plus, you've got to factor last year's draft of two defensive linemen (Rankins, Onyemata) and SS Vonn Bell as welll - three of the five picks last year...

If it's the Ramczyk pick people choose to criticize, then consider this:

(1) Zach Strief was just paid a cool add'l mil to come back for his 12th season, so we're getting close...

(2) We've had an injured LT the past two seasons and guess what we've got going into this season?

(3) Yes, Ryan had a hip strain (now healed going into training camp) but he was rated at least a Top 20 pick by many teams and we got him at 32...

(4) We've now got a guy who will probably be with us for a ten+ year career, again with a No. 32 investment...

It should be obvious from my posts here in our online community that I love building through the draft, would love a ten round draft and for us to acquire picks...

..., but the last two years show significant hauls, even though I hated the two-for-one trading...
