Draft

I really hope the Saints draft Channing Crowder. He is going to be a better linebacker than Derrick Johnson. Crowder is extremly intense and tough some things the saints lacked last year.

he\'s also had two knee surgeries and several \"off-the feild incidents\"....

yeah-he\'d do great in New Orleans.

He didn\'t hurt his knees in college. So who do we get Burnett. He had a few knee problems in College or I guess we just get another Georgia player. Crowder will be very similiar to Ray Lewis. Lewis had some problems off the field but i would still take him. Thomas Davis would not be a bad pick but why pick a safety to move him to linebacker.

burnett had 1 knee injury-and played very well after it...tennessee went to the SEC title game thanx mostly to him and the defense.

Weaknesses: Durability might be a concern because he has had a couple of knee injuries and then suffered torn ligaments in his right foot as a sophomore... Has only played major college football for two seasons so lack of experience may be a concern...Needs to get stronger...May have some character concerns.

Strengths: Has been extremely productive since day one of his true freshman year...Great athlete...Very good size and speed...Tough and physical...Aggressive...Active and makes plays all over the field...Has excellent instincts...Solid tackler...Has not yet reached his full potential.

Notes: Only a true sophomore eligibility-wise but was able to enter the 2005 NFL Draft because he has been out of high school for three years after delaying enrollment to rehab a knee injury...Crowder supposedly considered entering the \'04 Draft after Maurice Clarett initially won his court case so the NFL was on his mind...Was real close to Ron Zook, who he considers a father figure, so his firing may have been a factor in pushing Crowder to go pro.

he also played for one of the most underacheiving florida defenses I\'ve seen...burnett played for an overachieving tennessee team--and was a team captain...

I\'ll take burnett. and yes, burnett and RUud are the two linebackers I want the most in this draft.

Burnett and Crowder both had injuries as have most players that are in the draft. I just wish they would draft a guy like Crowder. He just has an intensity and personality I would like to see on the Saints. I watched about everyone of his games at Florida. He has all of the tools that you want in a middle linebacker. I like Watson a lot I thought he did pretty good for a rookie that was on a bad defense. Crowder is just on another level physically. He has had off the field problems and I know New Orleans is not the best place. If they are going to go for an outside linebacker. I like that Shawne Merriman. Crowder may be a problem and have a lot of injuries. That can be anyone though that is why the draft is so exciting because you never know what is going to happen. The reason I like him so much is that if it works out he will be the best linebacker out of this group.

Only thing Crowder and lewis will have in common, is that they both play LB

All I think this guy is saying, and I tend to agree, is that the team needs to look beyond stats for a change(something many people on this board could stand to do) and draft someone with a \"fire in his belly\" AND talent.

If I had to pick between someone with a little less talent but a huge mean streak and someone with a lot of talent but shows no passion, I\'m picking the first guy.

About 90% on the guys in the NFL have character issues. and 100% of them have history of injuries.

And like I\'ve said before, Duece has supposed to be injury-plagued too. He\'s a freakin RB with a history of knee problems...that is a recipe for failure if there ever was one. Looks like he\'s doing ok to me.

Crowder may be good, but he will not be better than DJ.Johnson is the best defensive player in the draft. I\'d take Burnett over Crowder in a heartbeat too

what we need to look at golden tomb is whether or not a guy can play on the field during the games. im with you on that. i mean we are constantly looking at the 40 speed and height and weight. not that that isnt important but it isnt the end all be all. i like bockwoldt and want to see if he can play the entire season and be effective. im not worried about his size or speed. i just think he has a knack for the game. thats what is most important. i hope they give the guy a shot

good enough reason to stay far away from crowder...I think he is a very overrated back who has underachieved his hwhole career-isn\'t that what we are trying to get away from?

you just described the bio of Ruud and Mitchell..

yes he was injury prone in college-and has been in the pros as well. he is extremely talented..but has IMO motivational issues...but is a significant upgrade over the bride dress wearing, pot smoker....

crowder played for ron zook and left when zook was canned...in several games that I saw him play in he looked lost most of the time and teams ran plays AT HIM..including Miss St. which is arguably the worst team in the SEC -who by the way--beat florida handedly.

It is widely speculated that crowder left because 1. he wouldn\'t see playing time under the new coach--who reportedly hates lazy players, and 2. his character concerns were worse than reported...which could have kept him off the team...

pass

having seen alot of both the guys on the feild-me too..

discount 40 times and look at the game tape...their are alot of guys that drop because of the combine and make far better players....it\'s not always the athletic ability but what\'s between their ears and in their heart that really matters....as I said-pass on crowder.

For Christs sake the kid (Crowder) likes to takle wild boars for fun. If you dont want that kind of guy on your team, who do you want. He\'s a hoss.

he\'s not good enough for #16 but will be gone by #40. another pick scored between there in a howard trade might make him possible.

sounds like alot of players that we could look at....I guess that\'s why we want another pick between 16 and 40.

CROWDER’S STOCK FALLING
Come draft time, one name to closely watch is former All-SEC linebacker Channing Crowder from Florida.

When Crowder threw his name into the 2005 draft early many of us in the draft world speculated that he would end up going in the opening round.

But concerns about his knees -- he has already had four operations -- is dropping his draft stock.

Crowder, who had worked out in New Orleans with speed enhancement coach Tom Shaw, has run a 4.70 and a 4.72 in the 40-yard dash at 245 pounds.

But he seems to be following the same draft path that lowered the draft stock of another former SEC standout linebacker -- Georgia’s Boss Bailey.
Many draft insiders speculated that Bailey would go in the middle to latter part of the first round in the 2003 draft, but Boss’ stock fell after medical reports indicated some instability in his knee, and he fell into the early part of the second round.

The same sort of scenario seems to be happening to Crowder.

One NFL director of player personnel has a different feeling about Crowder, but he does agree that his draft stock is dropping.

\"He is going to get red-flagged medically by some clubs, there is no question about it,\" the AFC director of player personnel director said. \"Our doctors don’t feel the knee is as unstable as what we saw in Boss Bailey. I hope he falls to be honest, because we would love to get him later in the draft. He isn’t going to go in Round One because of the injury, but he would be a steal of a pick in Round Two. This guy is 10o percent football player. He has a great attitude, he is tough, and he can run the field as well as any middle linebacker in this draft class. He has terrific football genes and he is a natural leader. I have been in this business for many years and I can tell you that you can overreact to some type of injuries. I was on a scouting staff that had Anthony Munoz ranked as the best player in the 1980 draft and our medical staff flunked him because he had three knee operations. We picked wide receiver Johnny \"Lam\" Jones from Texas and he could run, but he couldn’t catch a cold. All of the people in the scouting department pleaded with our coach to not select him, but he fell in love with Jones’ deep speed. Jones was hurt from the time we picked him until the time we got rid of him and he was clean as a whistle in college. That guy (Munoz) never missed any time in the league and he is now in the NFL Hall of Fame. You have to listen to your medical people, but in this league today you have people in the position to select players that don’t know football, and they pass on people who have been nicked up a bit, but can really play.\"
