Something this defense has lacked for years. That's where games are won. If Rivers was in one could argue that maybe he could have gotten rid of the ball quicker or avoided the pressure better and maybe we would have only had 5 or 6 sacks. I'll take 6 sacks any day. I saw what I wanted to see and it is a vast improvement. It was one game and certainly don't drink the cool aid but it was a good sign to see we seemed to have improved in the very areas we needed to.
Next weeks game will be more telling. I want to see how our guys against Watt.
If they can hold their own up front on that side of the ball I'll open the pack of cool aid and pull out a glass. Not saying I'll actually turn on the faucet but I'll be thirsty.
Maybe, just maybe the QB's were holding on to the ball longer because THE RECEIVERS WERE COVERED....for a change.

I only got to listen to the first half and couldn't get a good assessment of players in the secondary because they were focusing on the line so much. I'm not discrediting them but it's obvious the line did their job. I was able to watch the second half and Swann has to go.

Don't worry, Swann has zero chance of not being cut. He just looks terrible.

PJ Williams on the other hand...man o man. That boy gonna be gud. I am excited for him. He tackles well and hits like a truck. I like em!!

The little things that coaches will see on tape. TLL is a gamer. I think his roster spot is secure.

Nothing is easy at this level.
Agreed. I hate the preseason and talk as much crap about it as anyone. I can't stand that they make these teams play 4 games when all of the work that needs to be done is covered in practice and scrimmages. But with that said, preseason is where most of us fans get our only looks at the team before the real season begins, and I think we're all educated enough to recognize talent, and improvement, without jumping to too many conclusions.

The games are meaningless, but the individual performances matter, regardless of competition. All opinions have to be adjusted relative to the context of preseason and I, like you, see no reason to wait till September 17th to decide that there might be reason for optimism. Or pessimism, for that matter. I just happen to be optimistic, based on what I've seen.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

great showing against one of the worse OL in the NFL and a team that might have worse QB depth than we do, well maybe not.

Okay, just got through "re-watching" the game without the surprises factor from last night...

And it still jumps out to me the way the defense and special teams just swarmed to the ball...

Yes we used our best LBer (Klein) to down a kick in coverage, but if that's what it takes to set the standard for that unit - make it so...

I watched again today because I was in and out during the game. I was in and out again today, so I'll watch again Wednesday, but I felt the same - wanted to check to see if I was just a little too giddy.

I know it was the Chargers, but like I said in another thread, jeesh our defense looked like a real defense...for a change...wouldn't have mattered to me if we were playing the NSU Demons, I just enjoyed watching us play with a purpose!
