Nope; I think we should quit looking for the next quarterback and hope something miraculous happens...

How many elite QB's in the game today were picked after round 1?

Tom Brady - 2000 NFL Draft Round 6, Pick 199 (Note: He's won a few Superbowls, the last one has him considered the GOAT now)

Dak Prescott - 2016 NFL Draft, Round 4, Pick 135 (Note: Taken after QBs Jared Goff (No.1 pick), Carson Wentz (No. 2 pick), and Paxton Lynch (No. 26 pick) - all in the first round)

Aaron Rodgers - 2005 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 24 (Note: SF took QB Alex Smith with the top pick of the draft)

Drew Brees - 2001 NFL Draft, Round 2, Pick 32 (Note: SD let him depart via FA, opted for Phillip Rivers 2004 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 4)

Kirk Cousins - 2012 NFL Draft, Round 4, Pick 102 (Note: His own team, the Shanahan Redskins, traded the farm to move up and take Robert Griffin No. 2 overall in same draft)

Derek Carr - 2014 NFL Draft, Round 2, Pick 36 (Note: Taken after QBs Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel, and Tedy Bridgewater - all in the first round)

and the league's top rated passer last season? You're right, he was a high pick...

Matt "Matty Ice" Ryan - 2008 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 3 (Note: He just delivered one of the all-time chokes in Sporting History)

And should I bring up UDFA QB Kurt Warner, bagging groceries at one point between College and NFL, took two different franchises to a Superbowl?

But, I will mention that SF QB Joe Montana (3X SuperBowl MVP, 4X Champ) was the last pick taken in the third round of the 1979 draft...

I said elite.

only 5 of the top 20 last year were drafted out of the 1st round, and a few were high 2nd rounders like Brees and Carr.

Prescott isn't exactly elite, however if it weren't for the DUI he would have likely been a 1st rounder, or high 2nd.

You're absolutely right, Prescott isn't exactly elite: but his success illustrates that there are many approaches to setting the table for a QB to be successful...

For Brees, he was good, not elite, till he joined forces with Sean Payton in New Orleans as a non-retained Free Agent; so in Brees' case, his success was due in large part to the coaching...

As the same could be said for Tom Brady; he joined forces with Bill Belichick, the standard in NFL coaching and personnel management today...

While I'd agree the odds are much greater for success taking a QB in the first round that has greater physical skills...

I think it's the team, the existing personnel, and most of all, the coaching that plays a larger role in that QB's success...

New Orleans, with Sean Payton & Co., doesn't need a Top 15 Quarterback to be successful (which is why I was so relieved KC saved Payton from the Mahomes gaffe)...

It'd be nice, but not necessary; and until recent draft success by the Saints with Ireland in-house, I was betting the next QB was going to be found in the UDFA pile...

I think we still have time to clone Drew.

We don't get some depth on that offensive line and we may be looking for someone immedietly.

Not surprised he's gone, thought it was a horrible pick then and still do. I thought Aaron Murray was going to be good and isn't he out the league?

Know everyone thinks Underhill is stating the obvious, but in his defense, he got an obscene number of tweets complaining about the Saints taking Grayson...

...when the point of the article was that you've got to keep taking shots now and then in your draft for a QB; and Grayson had passed the initial eyeball test...

...in fact, he looked better in his rookie season - can't help but think that maybe some guys get stale on the bench?!?

Petty is still around. I think I read he's the #2 on the Jets roster. I would have taken him over Grayson. I surely would have taken Kelley this season.
