Saints cut John Kuhn, again

For the second time this month, the Saints have released fullback John Kuhn.

The Saints cut Kuhn on September 3 and then re-signed him on September 6, and it’s possible they’re planning something similar this time around: New Orleans may not plan to use many offensive formations with a fullback on Sunday against the Panthers, making Kuhn expendable, but they could bring him back next week if they want to have a fullback on the roster.

It’s also possible that some other team could sign Kuhn, although in today’s NFL there aren’t a lot of teams eager to add fullbacks.

Cutting Kuhn frees up the roster spot that the Saints will use for the newly signed Kendall Langford.

Not really sure what to think of this move. I thought Kuhn was an important part of establishing a power running game. And with Strief and Armstead out, I would think a fullback was more important than ever.

He'll be back. What this is telling me is that the offense will open up more this week and shy away from the power run game that simply was not working.

Don't like the move unless Hooman will play some fullback. We can't go entirely away from 2-1-2 personnel, especially since we are struggling in the red zone and we need to give Peat and Ramzyck help on the edge.

But hey what do I know, I'm trying to apply football logic to Payton's personnel moves. Silly me.

Perhaps he feels going five wide will give us a better chance.

Without Snead, on the road and against a defense that has only given up 6 points in 2 games? Seems like a risky proposition to me.

Looks like either way they go it's a risky proposition, a passing game without a "possession receiver" to compliment Thomas or a running game without both starting tackles and no real fullback.
