2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Hagan & JP, Any player(s) ... specifically at the LB position that has your attention or worthy of a high draft pick? IMO Saints need more speed at this position. You know ... a Jonathan Vilma sideline to sideline/impact type ...

Hagan & JP,

Malik Jefferson SLB/MLB/WLB Texas* 6015 238 4.57 #46 Jr
Is he asked to do to much yet again? I watch him and just do not see him going all out on each and every play

Rashaan Evans ILB/OLB Alabama 6021 232 4.73 #32 Sr
Is the talent around him allowing him to be more than he really is? Can not argue about his motor

Dante Booker OLB/ILB Ohio State 6021 233 4.62 #33 Sr
Is leading my mid round picks at LB but I still ponder the pick.

Jerome Baker OLB/ILB Ohio State 6005 225 4.62 #17 Jr
He is going to blow the pre draft away if the reports of 4.37 40 hold true

Then there is the option of going SLB so Klien can move to MLB.

I think the FA path is working well and we have yet to see what Gerald Hodges brings to the DA system either

I am still convinced the biggest addition the saints can make to improve the LB play is a PROVEN Veteran DT that requires double teams. Offensive lineman are always running free in our second level. That DT would free up team mates on the DL and force teams to use TE and RB to deal with those left with one on one blocking.

Thats were my guy comes into play.
DaQuan Jones DT/DE Titians 6036 322 5.35 #90 R4 2014 - $2/4 M
He already demands double teams at the pro level when dealing with OG and C, even then he is top run defender. I believe he can be had for a good price. We still have KV and Drew to resign.

Gotta keep your LB clean.

I think the most effective thing for the saints to do is FA with DT and LB. Draft the rest.

Honestly, and gonna speak a little heresy here, Vilma got too much credit and Shanle and Fujita took too much criticism...

That said, I know you're a WETSU as well when it comes to the draft, so these are LBers I'm scouting for the 2018 Draft...

LB Cameron Smith, USC (JR); Height: 6' 2"; Weight: 245 lbs

LB Rashaan Evans, Bama (SR); Height: 6' 2"; Weight: 234 lbs

LB Josey Jewell, Iowa (SR); Height: 6' 2"; Weight: 235 lbs

*LB Jack Cichy, Wisconsin (SR); Height: 6' 2"; Weight: 233 lbs

*Knee injury before start of 2017, former walk-on may take medical redshirt and return for 2018

And thinking out of the box; in today's NFL, I'd consider taking

SS Ronnie Harrison, Bama (JR); Height: 6' 3"; Weight: 214 lbs

And convert him to an OLB; or, if cap friendly, keep Vaccaro and do the same...

Of these guys, USC's Cameron Smith and LSU's Devin White are my two most intriguing Collegiate LBers right now...

There's a lot of baggage there; too much baggage...
