Best thing about this: almost everyone agrees we\'ll be taking a defensive player.

Good.

If we stay at 16, I wouldn\'t mind a DT or an OT. I really think we\'ll try and trade our spot; Thomas Davis is too much of a question mark at OLB.

I agree with that. May the football gods be with me, and show me a trade down scenario in this year\'s draft.

Four glaring needs, but only 3 day one picks.... I see a solution. And I\'m not even paid.

oh no - not I don\'t like that at all....

but it\'s better than it could be.

Know what this post proves?

There is absolutely no way that the Saints will select Carlos Rodgers, Travis Johnson, or Thomas Davis.

How many people called Will Smith last year? None. Danno said it was a possibility if all other players we \"wanted\" were gone. I never saw it in a mock.

The year before? Trufant... er... Sullivan. Any mock that said we moved up showed us moving up to get a CB or TOP DT. Even those that had us staying put didn\'t have us drafting Sullivan.

How many people had us picking Deuce when Ricky was still around? No one.

Point is, whoever is being predicted now is almost sure not to get picked by the Saints. They\'re too smart for us, afterall. LMAO.

excatly--which scares me...and could be why the news media never talks about the saints-no one (including the saints) know what\'s going on with the saints.

Whodat is right. No matter how many of these mocks you read, the saints will do something unpredictable. This is why I don\'t usually get into the draft hoopla. Tell me who we have at the end of the day and then I\'ll do my research.

What\'s interesting to me is that there are many who see us going d-line. If you\'ve picked up as many 1st round d linemen as we have in the last few years and the issue still needs to be addressed, isn\'t that a serious indictment of your personnel evaluation? I mean, we have some guys i like (smith, grant), but how many years in a row can you address the same thing in the same way.
(I guess that could start the coaching change thread, but I digress.)

The other thing is the Cedric Benson pick. He\'s a good back, but if you look at this team and decide that Benson is the best way to address their needs in round one, I think you\'re high.

Maybe this guy has an in with the front office :)

Well this is a new and awfully cynical spin on things.

I guess you could look at it as the Saints always do something other than what people are predicting. It seems like the consensus of the football world outside of New Orleans thinks we should pick a DT, CB or LB. It seems to me that the rest of the football world outside of New Orleans has consistently been better. After all, the majority of NFL teams do normally perform better than us year after year.

We should all hope(and this is very optimistic thinking for me) that the team does what the mocks say we will do. Maybe each year they think the Saints will actually get it together this time.

I\'m hoping for davis or a linebacker..if we go dt-castillo..though taht is my third choice

I think we\'ll go CB-because this is the first year we don\'t NEED one..and when we needed one we didn\'t get one..so since we need a linebacker and a safety..we\'ll go corner.

Yeah, I don\'t see the CB as a pressing first round need. I think either OT or LB makes the most sense.

As far as a DT goes, this organization put a lot on the line for one a couple of years ago. They need to try to get something out of Sully before they go grabbing another guy in the first. I\'m not saying we couldn\'t get better there, just saying that they made their bed with this pick. If you continue getting first round talent at one position, others go unaddressed. Look at QB...I\'m not a Brooks basher, but there is no other option, even as a backup.

I would personally like to see a move to get DJ, if he\'s there between 6-10. If not, I say get Brown (OT) and then Blackstock in the 2nd....but I\'m no expert.

they have done well when someone has \"fallen\" to them that they cannot pass up. let\'s pray the draft gods smile on them again. it\'s when the board is open and they make a bold move they seem to make the most screw ups.

Anyone know where there\'s a link that shows all current NFL starters and the breakdown of the round they went in? LK?

It would be really interesting to see how that breaks down across the league. How many more 1st rounders are starting than each of the other rounds. For every great one, there\'s a bust. (manning/leaf) And every year there are these late round guys that step up.

dunno of a list like that. you can find some good draft history in the draft link thread i reposted tho.

imo, the most successful fo\'s are one that not so much find late round gems. those are far and few in between and i dunno if you could find any scouts that have a flawless record on project players. the most success i believe comes from not making bust picks on the first day, paricularly the first 3 rounds. they may not be great but they do need to play and have an impact. i\'ll check a few of those sometime soon. of course, savvy free agent signings and trades have been a part of all successful teams. unfortunately the saints have a long dismal record except in the finks to mueller era. think pats and eagles in superbowl. i think corey dillon, t.o., and kearse trade signings. good teams that spotted what the need was and addressed it pointedly. as much as i hope levar fisher does well i cannot yet see him being a high impact player to a real area of need.

I know this is outta the blue but I think the Saints will trade to move up, possibly with Howard in the deal, and they\'ll pick a quarterback, perhaps Adrian Petersen. Why? Because Brooks played better when he didn\'t know how long he was gonna be the starter. The minute he had no competition his quality of play suffered. His Top 5 QB status waned. (Notice I said \"his quality of play\", not his stats. This has always been AB\'s problem. He doesn\'t know the difference between the two.)

Do I think this is the right move? Not necessarily. But the Saints always do the unexpected in the draft. And no one can question the pick of Duece, can they? Grabbing a QB lights a fire under Brooks\' butt and builds for the future. Does anyone doubt Brooks will insist on Peyton Manning money in the near future based on his \"stats\"? I don\'t. But I do expect a demand for a contract extension from him. And soon.

LK:

I agree with you, it\'s not so much about drafting a superstar as much as it is consistently getting starters. I would rather a draft that produces 4 solid starters over 1 superstar. Even the best FOs grab busts, some of which are just bad luck.

The thing that makes me mad with the Saints is reading about a guy like Sully who had work ethic questions coming in and we made an aggressive move to get him. You don\'t trade up to grab a buy with those types of question marks.

This is why Crowder scares me. Knee problems for a rookie? He may be a stud, but we have proven that we can find the guy who will live up to his red flags. Give me a guy with a brain, some skills, a clean bill of health, and no rap sheet. If THAT guy blows his knee, that\'s bad luck. If a lazy guy gets fat, that just means you didn\'t do your homework (or you didn\'t push the right buttons).

if we move up and grab ADrian Mcperson with a first rounder--and a high first rounder at that..I\'m going to stop rooting for the saints...that would be dumber than sully.

nah, here\'s a nightmare...
1st Rd- Matt Jones, ARK, \"we\'ll find a place for him\"
2nd Rd- Adrian MacPherson, Arena League, \"Unlimited Potential\"
3rd Rd- Maurice Clarett, Nowhere, \"We believe he will surprise people\"

sorry that\'s tooo perfect--I gotta use that as my sig..do ya mind? what would make it even better is if they tried to say Jones is a safety, Macpherson is a cb and Clarrett is a linebacker....

I agree that Jones wouldn\'t be good for the Saints current situation, but he could be a player.
AP....what would be better than AB jr? :D

I think Mcpherson will be less of a leon starting out-why-he\'s had to take the long road..and that will do nothing but help him..though when he tastes success....who knows..but if you can\'t make it in FSU (where anything short of mass murder is usually ignored) then you must have done something really really bad..or are just not that good.

Well, if that\'s the case, I think we should just pass on the usual suspects and take Mephistopheles in the first.

He\'s got a nasty temperment, and though he\'s got off the field problems, and he\'d make one helluva middle linebacker.

No pun intended.

Can whatever your avatar is play LB? Looks like it would be good at stopping the run.
