Absence of tight-end play: Accident or Design?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Remember when tight-ends figured prominently in our game plan, as well as short-passing game with slot receivers like Lance Moore? I can't figure out if they were just filling-in for a non-existent run game? Or, Fleener, et al. suck?...

Keep Fleener off the field and we'll start membering more TE plays in 2017

Re: Absence of tight-end play: Accident or Design?

Tight end production is WAY down throughout the entire NFL. This has been a subject of conversation several times this past week on both NFL Radio and NFL Network. It is not just the Saints. The theory that makes the most sense is that defenses have learned how to better defend the position. Yes, there have been isolated explosions, but for the most part TE production has been greatly reduced. This is most obvious in fantasy football that relies upon that production.

Move. Counter-move.

I remember that defensive failures were the reason behind those 7-9 seasons. Perhaps you are misremembering or turning a blind eye.

Can't speak for the whole year, but Drew was a little off Sunday, and when he targeted TE's he was low or behind. On two third downs he went to Hill and Fleener but threw some tough balls to bring in.

For the record, TE's have only been targeted 27 times, for 19 catches
