Lattimore Defensive Rookie Of The Year?

Quote:

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore is playing the kind of shut-down defense for the scorching-hot New Orleans Saints that should make him a front-runner for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

But he's doing something that ESPN analyst and former NFL safety Matt Bowen says is even more valuable.

"He has the potential to be a guy that can play solo coverage by himself. I think that's more important than any awards," Bowen said. "You can say, 'We're gonna roll our safety away from Lattimore today, because we know he can lock that guy down.' You know how much freedom that gives you as a defensive coordinator?"

Re: Lattimore Defensive Rookie Of The Year?

Lattimore has had more of an impact than others on their respective teams...

But Pittsburgh's Watt will have name recognition and media market bias on his side...

Former LSU DB Tre' White has been equally effective with the surprising Bills...

It's sixteen games so let's see it play out...

And with Hunt already seemingly hitting the rookie wall early, who knows, maybe Lattimore could get serious recognition for Rookie of the Year?!?

Unless the Saints make a push for the division title and he starts racking up INTs he won't get it.

The NFL awards go to big media teams, flashy plays, offense first and big stats. Over actual useful stats.

I want to thank Kansas City for trading up. The Bills would have most definitely draft Lattimore and the saints more than likely would've pass on (LSU) tredavious white.

Lattimore is who I wanted but didn't think it was possible. I was jumping around like it was 09 and we recovered a onside kick when they called his name. Kids thought I lost my mind and now they see why.

Kamara might get thrown in this conversation as well if he continues his dynamic play.

I like the point where the QB would be better of throwing the ball in the dirt instead of looking in Lattimore's direction. That way you at least get to run another play or two.

Might have the double whammy

May I introduce you to our assistant General Manager/College Scouting Director...

Jeff Ireland is in his second season working in the Saints personnel department as the club’s assistant general manager/college scouting director.

Hired in January, 2015, Ireland immediately turned his focus to preparations for his first draft with the Saints that would take place three months later. Armed with two first round draft picks, New Orleans selected Stanford tackle Andrus Peat with the 13th overall pick. Peat appeared in 12 games with eight starts, possessing the versatility to open contests at left tackle, left guard and right tackle. With the 31st overall pick, The Saints selected Clemson linebacker Stephone Anthony, who opened all 16 games and led the team with 144 tackles. The defense was addressed once again in the second round with the selection of Washington linebacker Hau’oli Kikaha, who made four sacks and was tied for second in the NFL and ranked first among rookies with four forced fumbles. Later in the draft the club also added quarterback Garrett Grayson, cornerback P.J. Williams, linebacker Davis Tull, defensive tackle Tyeler Davison, cornerback Damian Swann and running back/return specialist Marcus Murphy. All nine members of the draft class remain with the Saints. Three undrafted rookies also spent the entire season on the Saints 53-man roster, with Bobby Richardson taking over starting left defensive end duties and tying for the team lead on the line with 66 stops.

With Houston QB Deshaun Watson now on IR, Lattimore just needs to keep working, stay healthy and he may have a shot at...

...a Championship!

If KC continues to fade, Lattimore could actually break convention and make a run for ROY...

Yeah, right - talking heads can't see past 10 teams...

Had to laugh yesterday

Someone online was stating that he is laughing as tbe Lattimore hype as he has not covered a good receiver and every QB he faced was a rookie or secind teamer.
Clicked on him to find he is a Panthers fan.

Didn't reply when i said i agree apart from Brady and Stafford every QB be faced has been a bum like Newton

Well Lattimore has two each vs Julio Jones and Mike Evans - those games are going to be terrific barometers...
