pro football talk is reporting the broncos want out of their #26 spot in the first round. for what? a 2006 first rounder. this seems like a perfect take for n.o. to me. denver believes there is more talent next year and you can't argue about the odds of getting a better than 26 spot next year with the saints.

this would provide even more fuel for a move up if derrick johnson is sought. if not, it is a perfect range for several assumed saint targets- kevin burnett, cahnning crowder, khalif barnes, luis castillo, justin miller, etc.

okay, with #26 for next year's 1st, i have to add my eagles trade again-
#16 & #82 to philly for #31 & 35
let's throw in #38 from oakland for howard
that equates to-
#26, 31, 35, 38, and 40!
five out of 14 picks in that range would be primo to me. get
--burnett AND ruud at LB
--one CB out of marlin jackson, fabian washington, and corey webster
--OT adam terry, wesley britt, or marcus johnson
--campbell or walter at QB
--toss one of the above out if ya want and get DT hawthorne, mosley, or patterson

c'mon mickey, show us what ya can do

I was thinking about this last night-let\'s say we can get the first from Phlly...then this first or dallas first

3 firsts, a second, etc.

1. we could move up-but I don\'t want dJ I want Rolle or baron...then we go linebacker etc.

2. we could stay put- in that case we go best available..If we stay put-I think we should take
1. davis
1a. brown
1b. burnett or terry
2. ruud
3. adam terry or a cb

if we get rolle and we have picks left over we should aim for terry and ruud.

but I think the saints are targeting antrolle rolle....now why they didn\'t get his brother in free agency=-who knows..that would\'ve been a tandem...but I think they are targeting rolle-maybe even to play safety.

i dunno if i follow your math baron but i think we are on the same train.

PS/ antrel and samari are both from the miami area, both talkative, and both cornerbacks- but not related. any reason why you think they are targeting him? that would also require a move into the top ten picks in all liklihood.

Samari and Antrell are of no relation. I like Rolle because of his fire more than anything else. This was the guy who two years ago when no one could stop fitzgerald from getting 10 catches 100 yds and a TD who held fitzgerald to something like no catches in the first half and three for the game. i also recall rolle being suspended a game because of throwing a punch at a player who tried to crackback his teammate...im not saying that i advocate getting suspended but i love the fire he has in taking on a challenge...i think with him, mckenzie, and brown at CB and if we could get crowder or burnett later, we would have the beginnings of a stout defense for next year

I didn\'t know that...any of it...but I really think this is who the saints are focused on.

If so I like it-as some have said this is the best defensive player and maybe best player in the draft.

Has anyone seen any articles on who the Saints might be targeting? I know its not public knowledge that they would release, but Im up in BR and was wondering if anything has been in the Times Picayune over the past few days?

the only knock is that he might be TOO physical for corner and might end up as a safety. the 32nd ranked defense could use some more talent there too.

My only worry with moving him to safety is that i do not think he is big enough to man the SS spot and would then merely be backing up Dwight Smith at FS. Any thoughts?

Antrel Rolle (Miami)
Vital statistics: 6-foot-0 1/8, 201 pounds, 4.48 in the 40.
Numbers game: A Parade Magazine All-American in high school. Started in 36 of 45 appearances, finishing his career with 183 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, five interceptions, 21 passes defensed, five fumble recoveries and 4½ sacks. Had one interception return for a touchdown. In 2003, returned 13 punts for a 15.5-yard average and one score. Was twice suspended, once by the Big East and another time by school officials. Charged in July of 2004 after an incident in which people attacked his vehicle and he allegedly resisted arrest. Reinstated to team after he wrote letter of apology to police. Consensus All-American in 2004 and a member of the all-ACC team. Was a finalist for Jim Thorpe Award in 2004.
Upside: Big frame and powerful build through the upper body. Strong, active hands, can jolt a wide receiver with initial contact and pin him at the line. Loves to roughhouse with receivers, and will flat-out beat up wideouts as he runs alongside them. Excellent in bump-and-press coverages. Quicker than a lot of scouts thought. Forces the run and will play off blocks pretty nicely. Some blitz ability, especially when he sneaks up into the slot. Has played some safety, so be can move inside in nickel situations.
Downside: Although he has run well in workouts, lacks top-end speed and closing burst as well, doesn\'t always recover when he is beaten up the boundary. A little tight through the hips and not quite as fluid as you\'d like. Susceptible to double-move routes and will peek into the backfield a little too often.
The dish: Has the kind of size, toughness and mental makeup every team wants at what has become a premium position. Likely a top 10-selection.
but what if somehow we could get him and davis?

but what if somehow we could get him and davis? he\'s as big as most of the other safeties in the draft...6 foot , 200+

here\'s davis
SS/OLB Thomas Davis (Georgia)
Vital statistics: 6 foot 1, 230 pounds, 4.52 in the 40.
Numbers game: In high school, played eight positions, including quarterback at one point. As a redshirt freshman and in his sophomore season, alternated between safety and strong-side linebacker. Played in 39 games, starting 29, and had 272 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 10½ sacks, 27 pressures, three interceptions, nine passes defensed, six forced fumbles and nine recoveries. Blocked two punts and returned one for a score. Also scored a touchdown on an interception return. A consensus All-American and all-SEC in 2004 and a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award.
Upside: Incredible, freaky size, and moves well for such a big man. Explosive tackler who hits with a naturally rising action and drives through in textbook fashion. Can really de-cleat a ball carrier or receiver and is always looking for the knockout hit. Will put the fear of God in anyone who crosses through his zone. Good lateral quickness and closing speed. Tough and nasty and plays with passion. Loves the game and competes hard on every snap.
Downside: Kind of an in-between player, and some teams still aren\'t sure whether he is a safety or a weak-side linebacker. A little tight in the hips and doesn\'t always take good angles in pursuit. Not a great change-of-direction defender. Does not show great range, even when sitting back in a zone, and can\'t play single coverages. At times, a flat-out liability in pass coverage. Not exactly a ballhawk.
The dish: Size-speed ratio is jaw-dropping, and his lights-out hitting style is compelling. He\'s a certain first-rounder, perhaps in the top half of the round, but the team that takes him is going to have to design things so that he plays in the box, where he should be a huge component in stopping the run.
personally I\'d rather take my chances with rolle
