My 4 round Saints mock

#1 round Travis Johnson - Let's face it, our defense isn't going anywhere without production from the defensive tackles. We need a stud here, and he's our man. Although I would love for Sullivan to develop, but his off-season hasn't really been encouraging. Johnson and Green would be a solid foundation for the defense. Young is not superstar, but he is solid to make a formidable 3 man rotation. Anything we can get out of Sullivan will be a plus.

Next best choice - Carlos Rodgers
Sleeper pick - Troy Williamson

#2 Corey Webster - We need a ballhawk on defense period. Before he was injured this year, he was a top 10 pick last year if he would have left. He will be an absolute steal here in the second round if he's still available. A group of Mike, Corey, Dwight, Thomas, Bellamy, Craft, Mitchell, Gleason looks very solid. INT's baby, I can't wait.

Next best choice - Adrian McPhearson (talented qb who's arm has drawn comparsion to John Elways. Time to take a hike AB :P )
Also should consider - Odell Thurman (Now we can shift Watson outside and have Thurman punish in the middle.)

#3 Ray Willis - From the looks of it, Stinchcomb might be able to beat out Mayberry for the starting right tackle spot. But it will be hard to pass up on a talented tackle in Willis. I would take him here and groom him into a left tackle because he definately has the talent to make that move. Over-shadowed by Alex Barron, I feel as if he's just a good.

Alternative pick - Jordan Beck (fast, strong, can make the move to safety if necessary, Adam Archuleta clone)
Sleeper pick - Michael Boley (Scouts love to dog the guy, but point blank this guy produces. Look at the amount of big plays he made throughout his college career. You can't beat that)

#4 Jerome Carter - This former boxer will knock anyone's lights out if they dare cross the middle. Now that we have Smith to help in coverage, Carter can be the Rodney Harrison this team needs. I would love to elevate Mitchell to the starting SS spot, but he needs a fire lit under him. I can see those two duking it out in practice.

Alternative pick - Eric Shelton (Okay this is wishful thinking because he'll definately go higher. Any running back here would be fine. We have Smith signed for 1 year and with the rb class this year, we can't go wrong. This may sound like a weird idea, but don't you think Maurice Clarett's running style is very similiar to Deuce's? No guts no glory)

Hope you guys enjoyed my 2 cents. ;)

Papz I absolutely love it. Three Noles and a Tiger in the first four rounds. Im getting tingly right now just thinking about it. I think that Johnson is a good fit. Hes not the 300+ pound mammoth DT, but hes a quality two gap DT and would fit into a nice rotation. Webster would be a very nice addition to the club although he might take a little time to develop. The thing that I like about Webster is he played in a pro style defense with a lot of blitzing where he was usually left one on one with the other teams top receiver. I absolutely love the Ray Willis pick. As much as Montrae Holland is a road grader at G, Willis is an even better run blocker at tackle and hes not too shabby at pass blocking either despite what some scouting reports say. (I live for Seminole, Tiger, and Saints football and Ive watched the guy play for the past 3 years.) Now dont get me wrong, hes never going to be a replacement for Gandy, but he is a rock solid prospect at RT in my opinion and he should be available in the third and maybe the fourth round. Jerome Carter is indeed a hitter. Hes a good tackler and Ive watched many a times crush people at the line. However, Ive also watched him many a times lose slot receivers in coverage and even struggle with TEs. He may be considered a liability in coverage. But he definetly does pack a pop and would be a Rodney Harrison type player.

I like these picks assuming we dont make any trades and excluding the possible second for Howard.

Round 1- Carlos Roger, CB, Auburn. Hes a need based on Mckenzie\'s possible holdout. He is flying up draft boards. The measurable I like about him is that he ran the fastest short shuttle time of any CB at the combine. Great speed, solid tackler, played against big time competition, and won the Thorpe award amidst a solid group of DBs last year. Would be a starter soon enough and if not this year, would be a heck of a nickel back with Mike and Fakhir.

Round 2- Kevin Burnett, LB, Tennessee- Would immediately come in and be a starter a the Will spot. Tremendous athlete. Can go sideline to sideline. A powerful, crushing tackler. Also played safety in the early part of his college days and because of that is very good in coverage. I think he will be a better pro than DJ or any other LB in this draft. Only weakness I see is that he has had major knee surgey before. My hope is that this red flag drops him out of the late first and into our hands in the 2nd.

Round 3- Ray Willis, T, Florida St- see Papz previous post

Round 4- Attiyah Ellison, DT, Missouri- I would love to see the Saints grab either Ellison or his former teammate CJ Mosley. Both of these guys have the physical tools needed at DT. Both are also a little bit rusty and would need some work on technique instead of relying on their athletic ability each play. However, he would create a decent enough rotation with Young, Green, and maybe Sully.

that was two years ago and he\'s had two decent to great seasons since-i\'mnot so worried about his knee. I had the same surgery and while I\'m not playing pro football...it\'s been a year adn I\'m running fine...several players have had that surgery to go on to good careers..and it was only one surgurey I recall.

Good to know baron. It wasnt really a worry of mine. More than anything I was just hoping that it was enough of a downside to have him drop to us in the second round. Im worried about someone snagging him in the late first round until the time we pick. Very similiar worry as I had for Boss Bailey a few years ago. I wanted him with our second but didnt think that his college injuries were enough of a factor to have him drop. And he didnt. Hope it doesnt happen again.

Like number one (but I think we will pick Davis)

As for number 2 -- I have heard the McPherson has a good chance of dropping into round 3 -- I thik he may be a stretch at our high number 2.
