San Fran will draft Alex Smith #1

AP reports San Francisco 49ers officials informed NFL Draft prospect QB Aaron Rodgers' (California) representatives over the weekend that they favor QB Alex Smith (Utah) by a small but definitive margin.

Hey but things happen and they might throw a curveball and make everything much more interesting. I also like Smith better than Rodgers.

Its not big deal they have informed him... whatever... the fact that they are in contract negociations with him is the bigger news. The can sign him before the draft makes it a done deal. It could be done as early as today!!!

rodgers will be a beast. Smith no-matter how good his \"workout\" was.....i think was a product of the system!

The 49ers apparently plan to choose Utah quarterback Alex Smith with the first selection in the NFL draft Saturday if they can agree to a contract with him in the next few days.

I\'m not convinced either of these jokers warrant a #1 pick, but it won\'t hurt my feelings to see the 49ers make a mistake. I still don\'t understand why they\'re so quick to write off Rattay - or even Dorsey for that matter. Both played as well as could be expected for that mess of a team in 2004.

Kinda wish we\'d consider taking Rattay off their hands...

I thought Rattay was coming, instead of Bouman. He said he wanted to. I was blasted because of his slight frame, but he would\'ve stayed healthier being a reserve

I would\'ve drafted a RB first, since QBs are riskier, and it takes most longer to develop. The Niners could\'ve gotten a next round QB, and the best RB in the draft.
