The decision seems foolhardy, but it was actually the right one. On fourth down, Brees needed a completion to win, and he knew there was little risk of a return.
"Don't throw a pick that they can return for a touchdown, but if there's guys in a bunch, hey, maybe you get a (pass interference), maybe your guy goes up and makes a play," Brees said. "That's a ball that has to be thrown." The yardage ended up mattering greatly. Guess when they spin it this way, it looks better; just seems in past years Brees would have recognized something and made an adjustment... Still a good story... |

I had no problem whatsoever with that call. Aggressive play calling won us a Super Bowl. Sometimes you just have to roll the dice.
I think that was a designed play and our offense was anticipating a possible interception and were in position to make the tackle if it came down to it. Instead the Panthers have some dumb players. |

I had no problem with the call because we won. But if we had lost, I would have had a huge problem with it.

Can you imagine if the Saints would have called a hook and then go route for either Thomas or the slot receiver on the left?

Brees is definitely a game manager, and I do not mean that in a derogatory fashion. If we all donated a dollar to B&G every time Drew called "Kill, kill, kill" there would be a Martini bar and beer flowing from giant Fleur de Lis fountains.
Nearly every fan looks at their QBs pay and tries to rationalize that with passing stats, but few defensive leaders speak about other QBs like they do Drew.. Sunday wasn't Brees vs Newton, it was Brees vs Kuechly... a game of chess between formidable foes if you will, and Drew beat one of the best on the field defensive minds in the game today. I don't have WTF moments any more going for it on 4th or many of the bold plays called that are unexpected. My WTF mements come during double reverses and flat footed kickers keeping the ball :confused: |
