It's being speculated that if the 49ers take Alex Smith with the top pick, then that means that Aaron Rodgers could find himself spiraling down the draft board. This has led me to wonder: If I were Loomis, and Rodgers fell to the #16 slot, would I take him? I think that I would, depending on whether I could get an extra second for Howard at some point.....without that extra second, then I'd probably pass.....I'm thinking that if he falls far enough that he'll get that chip on his shoulder and try to prove all the teams that passed on him wrong. Anyway, I'm curious to see what you guys think, after all, you astound me on a daily basis with your fountain of football knowledge. OK, back to lurking now, thanks for taking the time to answer my question :D

I have said all along I think Rodgers will be the bust of the draft. He\'s a Tedford guy and if you watch him play he is basically Joey Harrington.

I can\'t consider picking any QB in the 1st. Any picks we get from dealing Howard and/or Freddy need to be parlayed into the highest impact D players possible.

Definite co-sign on that.

To take any offensive player other than a stud OT in the 1st round is sheer lunacy.

Except Mike williams, but that\'s my own personal mission. Anywho, if Rogers is there at our pick, we have to field offers and hopefully will be able to trade down with a team that wants him, say a Green Bay. Or we take him and work out a trade later. If he is there at 16, he would have to be by far the highest rated player on our board at that point. I don\'t see how we can let him get past us without either taking him, or making a move so another team can move up.

I\'m with you, whodi. If he\'s there at 16, steal him or make a trade for him. He is to highly rated to pass up at 16.
