Mel Kiper says Crowder will drop in the draft.

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Mel Kiper said on Sportcenter that Crowder will be a 3rd or 4th rounder because of past injuries. Is that realistic? And how good is Crowder. I can't remember what's been said about him? Someone please fill me in....

Talented, but two bad knees, some maturity issues, and I beleive some character issues although I can\'t recall what they were. Very talented though, if he doesn\'t get injured. He also only played two years of college ball since his first year was a medical red shirt cause of his knees.

saintswhodi --

Would taking Crowder in the 2nd be worth the risk?

Where would you draft him. That is if you would draft him.

I would be fearful of taking him due to the Cie Grant experiment. If he was there in the 4th, i\'d give him a look. But anything on the first day is risky. Now that\'s not to say someone won\'t take him before, and he may very well do fine. But we wasted a pick on Cie with his injury history and I am just over that. So 4th round if he is there. I think there are some players with less questions in the 3rd or sooner.

Thanks, whodi.

Although I give you hell most of the time, I do respect your opinion. Most of the time that is. But don\'t tell anybody!!

I\'m trying to get caught-up on all of the players in the draft that we might be interested in. Should have read more of the mock-draft threads, I suppose.

Here\'s something I found on Crowder. I agree with saintwhodi. Sounds a lot like Cie Grant. Or worse.

INJURY REPORT

2002 -- Did not attend school, as he had surgery on both knees after his high school senior season. Crowder first underwent knee surgery as a sophomore as he had an anterior cruciate ligament transplant. After his senior year, Crowder again underwent surgery, this time on both of his knees. Shortly after his 18th birthday, on Dec. 2, 2001, he had additional knee surgery. There was another surgical procedure on the left knee in April of 2002 to fix complications from his sophomore operation. He worked diligently to get back in shape, but had to sit out the 2002 season -- not enrolling at Florida to save a year of eligibility.

2003 -- Underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery on Oct. 1, prior to the Mississippi game, and missed that contest. He returned against eventual national champion LSU 10 days after surgery to lead the linebacking unit with seven tackles.

2004 -- Bothered by a groin strain during spring drills. … Missed most of the Georgia game and the entire Vanderbilt and South Carolina contests after straining a tendon in his right foot (arch) in the first quarter of the Georgia tilt.

Don\'t get me wrong, he may go in the second or 3rd, I just hope it\'s not us that early. Especially in the 3rd. Cie Grant, James allen, Sed Hodge. Not much LB success for us in the 3rd.

And the feeling is mutual. But if you tell anyone else, i\'d have to kill ya.

I would take a shot on him in the third, especially if Ron Bartell-CB-Howard is gone in the third.

And to touch on the maturity issues with Crowder, he was suspended for getting into some trouble off the field. I am pretty sure that it was a fight at a night club, i just dont know if it was with a customer or police or club staff. Either way, that backs up the problems with his maturity. I would take him in the third round...no higher.
