Looking Forward ,Free Agency

Not going to talk about playoff loss . I am excited about the future of this team . With 22 players returning from IR and the improvement of our excellent rookie class the future looks bright 🌞.
Looking forward to free agency there are several intriguing possibilities.
TE is a position that was lacking this season
Trey Burton is a young FA TE that has been playing second fiddle to Zach Ertz and might be looking to find an opportunity to play with a hall of fame QB.
IMHO rather than signing Vaccaro to an inflated contract there are two safeties that I Would rather have.
Morgan Burnett and Lamarcus Joyner . Both of these players are more complete elite level players. Almost by definition free agent signings are over paid and if you have to over pay it should be elite talent.
The most urgent need is at DE. This is one of the most expensive positions to fill and good players rarely make it to the market. That being said the player that interests me most is Sheldon Richardson. He is a versatile proven pass rusher and can play both outside and inside. We are very unlikely to have a shot at a good DE with where we pick in the draft. Richardson would be immediately one of our better defenders!
Outside LB is another area that could use some help.
Nigel Bradham is a stellar three down LB that is excellent in coverage
Slot receiver was thought to be a strength with Snead but he highly under performed.
Adding Jarvis Landry would give us a elite performer and would probably be even better with a QB like Brees. He is only 26! Two others I would consider are Josh Gordon and Allen Robinson . Obviously Gordon is high reward high risk pick and you would like to have some protection in the contract to protect you if he relapses. Once again imagine the m kind of production he could have with Brees throwing him the ball! Robinson had huge season two years ago with Bortles as his QB.
These are just a few of my thoughts going forward adding one or maybe two of any of these players would be epic IMHO!

Re: Looking Forward ,Free Agency

Saints should stay away from big name, big money free agents. I like the idea of loading up on inexpensive free agents, and let them fight it out in training camp. Of course the exception to this is Drew Brees, we know he will cost some big money.

Re: Looking Forward ,Free Agency

Dontari Poe ?
Aaron Lynch - young dude (24) & he brings it off the edge
Eric Decker - he can get open on 3rd down.
Zach Brown - solid MLB with instincts
And X _ stud across from Cam Jordan.

It would be nice to get Jarvis Landry but he won't come without a high price tag.

Remember just a few back how Elway built a dominate D through FA? ... Ware,Talib, TJ & drafting Miller set them up nicely. I think Jeff Ireland and the brain trust will do the same in New Orleans. We have key components already in place.

Re: Looking Forward ,Free Agency

Just looking at what I think we need:
DT
TE
WR
CB

I know Armistead is stud when he plays, but dude is on again off again, should we trade him (if we could) and try to pick up a guard?

BTW- love Kelemente off the bench, guys has been great. Peat's versatility has made us able to move pieces. I hope we sign strief for one more year as a backup.

Thoughts?

Re: Looking Forward ,Free Agency

Not looking at the cap situation?

I don't think we make a big splash in FA. Although I see we have some clout trying to sign some big names since we are an upcoming exciting team.

Usually we sign some players to fill holes and draft the BPA. I don't see that much changing. Great news for us we don't have that many holes to fill this time aroud. Aside for some upgrades at some positions I don't know if we have to...

Re: Looking Forward ,Free Agency

There's just not that impact DE we need that will hit the market. Dallas will franchise Lawrence and no one else is overly worthy of pursuing. A name I would be fine with seeing back if the price was right is Jimmy Graham. While our journeyman TE's played admirably they were a weak point of our offense.

We definitely need to add another OL piece but more of a depth/upside guy than a big splash.

On defense I don't see any standout players we need to have. I'd take a flyer on a few for the right money but don't see much happening. Stick with adding to it in the draft.
