Amazing athletic ability. There is no other phrase that can better describe LaVar Arrington. The 1999 Butkus and Bednarik Awards winner has used his incredible athletic ability to accomplish just about everything a linebacker can at the college level.

Sound familiar?

He also must improve his strength at the point of attack. At times, he didn't do a good job of getting off of blocks when plays were run directly at him.

Sound familiar?

He will also need to develop more effective pass rushing techniques at the next level. He won't be able to run around every offensive tackle in the NFL on his way to the quarterback.

Sound familiar?

I heard on ESPN\'s draft special last night that since season\'s end that DJ has bulked up to 245. If thats true, then that is a definite testament to him improving his game and the extra muscle with a little hand technique will help him silence the critics(including myself).

Nah but it\'s a crapshoot. Too many first round picks bust anyway. Why should DJ be any different? He even got run over by a 200 pound running back. What\'s that all about???

We\'d have to reach for him at #6, but even if he was at 16 he\'s still not worth the risk. Let\'s just trade down to minimize all risk. No...better yet....let\'s trade all of our firsts for the next three seasons for extra seconds this year and next year.

Man I keep posting like this there won\'t be any need for about 5 or 6 other posters around here. I\'ll post on their behalf.

GT, you crack me up now. But let me get on board with you. DJ is not worth trading up for, he will bust, and Darren Howard is worth the number one overall, and if we can\'t get that, we need to trade away allow our picks and just not have any so we can keep him. Then we can make as many picks as we want in the future and keep franchising Howard until he is making more than Peyton.

good idea tomb. those draft picks are damn risky. there must be a reason why they are so much cheaper than a veteran. we could get proven products like tebucky jones, todd bouman, etc.

Why risk taking Johnson with a No. 1? When he faced real NFL sized offensive linemen with real NFL offensive lineman skills in the Rose Bowl, he got his little butt engulfed and could have just as well stayed on the sideline.....

......oh, wait--that one\'s true.

Doesn\'t sound that familiar. What I\'m hearing sounds more like \"I\'ve watched a lot of film on the guy and I\'ve yet to see him shed ONE block.\"
Why does he get all the attention? Because the LB class is so weak this year. Not sure if he was projected as a Top 10 guy if players like Vilma etc. were available this year.

1 1/2 tackles versus Michigan. Had the guy doing the \"stream of conciousness\" piece for Fox Sports asking \"Is Derrick Johnson playing in this game?\"

People are blowing Johnson\'s \"inability\" to get off blocks way out of proportion. If he was really that bad at getting off blockers, you think he would be a 4-year starter at one of the nation\'s most prestigious football programs? Do you think he would receive unanimous first-team All American accolades? You think he would be named Defensive POY in the Big 12 and the Butkus Award winner? You think this guy would earn the Nagurski Award for being the best defensive player in the country? YOu think he would record 130 tackles his senior year while causing 9 fumbles, 2 sacks, 19 TFLs, or a blocked extra point?

Of course not. DJ sucks. I\'m surprised he played at all. His list of accomplishments aren\'t that good. He should have probably been a permanent backup at Vanderbilt.

Ok, so the guy had one bad game against Michigan in the Rose Bowl. So what? Check out his stats against Top 25 teams in his career (18 games):

175 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 31 TFLs, four interceptions, nine PBUs, 19 pressures, three caused fumbles and a fumble recovery.

That\'s pretty damn solid. So don\'t give me this crap that DJ can\'t shed a block. You don\'t put those kind of numbers up against teams like OU if you can\'t \"shed ONE block.\" That\'s total bull. This guy is a stud, and he is beefing up even more. Stop hatin!

Maybe we could package Deuce, Howard, Horn, Brooks, and McKenzie in a trade to get DJ - what do you guys think? That\'s a lot of salary gone and DJ MIGHT be great!!!!!
