With contract year looming, Mark Ingram says his best years are still in front of him

Sign him.
His ability and willingness to work along with Kamara in the backfield alone is worth it. You can tell those guys love playing together and each embrace their role. It’s going to be hard to find another back that’s willing to split carries like that and enjoy doing so.

This is really hard to believe, but Ingram only needs 734 yards to surpass Deuce and become the Saints all-time leader in rushing yards.

It'll be a numbers game, but I wouldn't offer him any more than league average of a Top 20 RB, he's not even our best RB...

Kamara now gives the Saints the leverage they need to get Ingram at a bargain rate, allowing the team to address other needs...

If Ingram is smart he won't bite. His next contract is likely his last big contract. No matter what ties he has with the Saints, he has to cash out.

It's interesting how most folks here wants players to take the hometown discount for the benefit of the team and to the detriment to their own financial future. Football careers, espeically running backs, are simply too short to be sentimental.

Well, in all fairness to the team and fans, Ingram was spotted a R1 contract the first four years before he finally produce...

That's irrelevant. He had a R1 contract because he was picked R1. He had an R1 grade at the time with reports showing a pick in the 15-20 range as being appropriate. Ingram's next contract is based on recent production.

All I'm saying is that trying to retain Ingram at a bargain bin price will backfire. The league knows he's a top 5 back. So if the Saints want him, they'll have to pay him accordingly.

He will be 29 when this contract is up, and the decline of RB's that age is well-documented.
The plus side is that since he has never been a feature back he doesn't have as much wear-and-tear as others his age.
Right now he is a bargain: https://overthecap.com/position/running-back/

As always, the market will dictate his price. At $5 to $6 million I'd keep him

How many years as a a Pro did it take Brees "To Produce"?

apples and oranges: HOF QB vs late blooming RB

The league's oldest running backs were Sproles and Gore at 34
There were 6 starting quarterbacks older than 35

There are other RBs who could produce like Ingram; there are very few with Kamara's elusiveness...

Wouldn't overpay for Ingram; average Top 20 RB salary...

Who might that be? There are a handful of backs who may be better but there are a lot of backs who are worse. I doubt he'll get a contract that will break the bank either. You don't break up chemistry in 2018.

Hopefully Mark goes no where.

I like Mark very much and want us to keep him, but I think you're right.

Still, the guy has passion second to none. That counts too I think.

That's a good point...

Roll Tide! Don't mess with chemistry. Give him an extension and keep him off the market.

Trade him to Cleveland for the first pick in the draft. Then take that pick and draft a new punter!

I was impressed with how much of a teammate Ingram was this year. Always one if the first to congratulate another back on a TD, when he wasn’t even on the field for the play.

Down the stretch Ingram disappointed, especially against Minnesota. But stats disguise individual games.
