We selected Alfred Fincher over Darryl Blackstock??????

We have got to be retarded.

A least its an LB. When we are at 8-8 next year or worse, at least we won\'t be able to say \"and the Saints didn\'t even bother to get an LB.\" Even if he has projected to be a fifth round LB.

From football.com:

Quote:

Albert Fincher I UConn
6-1, 240

Strengths-Good athlete with decent range. Solid tackler who plays the run well. Above average hand skills help his shed blocks quickly. Decent recognition skills. Quick coming off the edge on the blitz.

Concerns-Lacks top speed to cover deep routes. Can play high at times and lose leverage. Hasn\'t faced top competition on a regular basis.

Overall-Fincher may be one of the more underrate prospects in this draft. His skills and playmaking abilities make him a player worth a further look. No fewer than nine NFL teams are giving Fincher attention. He should go earlier than many expected. Possibly as early as round three.

Well hey, Mel Kiper likes the pick. I think we could have salvaged this if we had taken Blackstock who was supposed to have been considered for us at the #40 pick. Not to mention he\'s still considered Mel\'s BPA. Unbelievable. We took Alfred Fincher. We passed on Blackstock. Unbelievable.

This is obviously a player that the Saints believe will be a run stopping linebacker who will get subbed in with Courtney Watson on running downs. According to the reports I\'ve seen, he probably won\'t be starting material for his entire NFL career. Only marginal upside and limited athletic skills.

Overall, he\'s not a god-awful pick like Bullocks, but he\'s not a good pick for our desperate LB corps. I\'m still VERY disappointed in this year\'s draft.

Blackstock is a 3-4 LB. The Saints use a 4-3. Do the math. Blackstock is a one-dimensional pass rusher. Our defense can\'t stop the run. Now we can.

Do some homework before you go ape-****, OK?!

Really? Blackstock is a 3-4 linebacker? No way. I\'ve seen the guy play before. But just because he played in a different scheme in college doesn\'t mean that he can\'t play a 4-3 in the pros. That reasoning makes no sense. He still could have been a talented addition to our unathletic linebacking corps. Besides, what\'s wrong with a little bit of pass rushing? You think just because he rushed the quarterback most of the time in college, that he can\'t do anything else? He can\'t improve? Can\'t adapt? This guy\'s too athletic not too.

Although we\'re upset with some of the draft picks, I\'m still guessing the FO/scouts know more about these players than anyone on this board. Seriously, we are fans and watch weekly, but I\'m sure there\'s more of a science to it than that.

This is from NFL Draft Countdown on Blackstock

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/pla...lackstock.html

Quote:

SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths: Has good size...Tall and rangy frame...Does an excellent job at getting after the quarterback and is a great pass rusher...Good quickness and has a burst...Excellent athletic ability...Very productive.

Weaknesses: A liability versus the run...Not a natural in coverage...Lacks fluid hips...Doesn\'t change direction well...Plays in a 3-4 defense that is perfectly tailored to his skills and may need to be in a similar scheme in the pros.

Notes: Overshadowed by Ahmad Brooks and Kai Parham at times...Would be a perfect fit at outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme...A little overrated due to his pass rush numbers and is basically still a raw, one-trick pony at this point.
Run stopping as a weakness? And we have to play our defense to suit his style?

He is not needed

This is Fincher\'s Profile from the same site...
Quote:

SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths: Has a lot of experience...Has good size...Is very tough...A team leader and great competitor...Physical and a thumper in the middle...Gets the most out of his ability...Versatile and could play inside or outside.

Weaknesses: Doesn\'t have ideal physical tools...Doesn\'t look natural or fluid in coverage...Didn\'t emerge as a pro prospect until his senior year...May have a limited upside at the pro level.

Notes: Is best friends with QB Dan Orlovsky...Had a big senior season and really saw his stock rise...Won\'t impress you with his physical tools but is a good football player who just gets the job done...May be one of the more underrated players in the Draft.
Now this seems like a great pick to me..

I guess most of you people don\'t watch college football on a regular basis. I\'m a betting man and I\'ve watched UConn extensively this past season. If you think Fincher is a bad player, then you are a moron. Not only is Fincher good, but UConn\'s other two linebackers made up one of the best linebacking core in the country this past season. Solid pick in my opinion... perfect for our team. Now we can move Watson outside where he is better suited.

Let me ask some of you this... although many mock drafts had Blackstock going late first round early second, why do you think he dropped so far? Look at the organizations that passed on him... Patriots, Eagles, Ravens, etc... They are organizations in which he fits there scheme and they still didn\'t pick him. Obviously there is something about him that just doesn\'t entice them. He is a pass rusher and that\'s it. One dimensional period. I\'m not saying he won\'t be a good NFL player, but that is NOT what we need. He can\'t cover period and would be a liability. You guys are too concerned about drafting \"name\" players. We did fine... besides the first round, we deserve a B-. It would be higher if we didn\'t do something weird in the first and lose a third next year.
