1997-Tony Gonzalez,
1998-Fred Taylor, Keith Brooking, Takeo SPikes, Randy Moss,
1999-Torry Holt, Champ Bailey, Chris McAllister, Daunte Culpepper, Jevon Kearse
2002-Javon Walker, Ed Reed

Can we add Jamal Brown to the list of Pro Bowl players the Saints have selected in the 1st round?

I\'ll bet you Brown makes the pro bowl before DJ does?!

Yeah, cause look at the impact Robery Gallery made for Oakland last year. hahahahahaha I will take that bet right now, and the loser can\'t post on here for a year. Is that a bet?

Ever heard of Le\' Charles Bentley? No bet though, saintwhodi. I really don\'t know. But I would bet on Jamal Brown before DJ.

So you are so confident you propose a bet, then when it is accepted you back down? Is there a smilie with a chicken on it? It\'s a great pick remember? And Bentley was a guard and not a T in case you don\'t recall. Much harder to be a rookie T than a rookie G. But I am sure you knew that and didn\'t mean Bentley right? So why you backing down from the bet you proposed?

And Gallery was a LT not a RT. I\'m sure you knew it\'s harder for a LT to make the pro bowl.

I get tired of beating up on you ... ;)

And Bently was really a center.......I agree with Billy on this one. I\'ll take the bet as well. DJ is good but more opportunistic than really talented.

smitty and coastal, not posting doesn\'t really effect you guys, neither of you post much anyway. I would bet straight cash with either one of you. But Billy posts these sunshiney smoke up the butt opinions all day, and it would effect him. Thus the proposal. If either of you guys wanna put straight money on it, i\'ll take it.

Gumbo, wow. Gallery played RT most of the year last year for the Raiders, and he was nothing special. No matter what side of the line he is on though, Gallery is a better player than Brown is. Next you are gonna tell me it\'s harder to play RT then LT. Wow dude. Know a little of what you are saying before you say it.

Forget the bet. I wasn\'t serious anyway. And forget Gallery. I don\'t care about Gallery.

But, you\'re the same guy who said there was NO way DJ would drop out of the top 10. Right? WRONG!!

Coach Vermil said DJ wasn\'t ready for the NFL yet and they would have to get him ready.

Jamal Brown is ready. You can believe that!! And he\'ll be starting at RT from day one.

You\'re not happy about that because you undervalue offensive lineman and \"focus\" too much on the \"glamor\" positions.

At least that\'s what I gather from reading your posts.

I on the other hand believe games are won and lost in the trenchs. It\'s been proven time and time again.

This is truly hilarious from the guy who was saying before the draft we needed to trade up for DJ, and made threads about it. You just burned yourself. You wouldn\'t even know Jamaal Brown\'s name if we had drafted DJ. Thanks for playing yourself. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I\'ll be the 1st one to amdit (and I said it before the draft) that I didn\'t know much about any of the college players. That includes DJ.

But, after readig the \"opinion\" of many experts, it seems like Jamal Brown was a better selection than DJ. I know you don\'t like hearing anything negative about DJ, but I\'m not the one saying the stuff about DJ.

I\'ve heard NO ONE say Jamal Brown isn\'t ready for the NFL. I\'ve heard quite a few who are questioning DJ\'s ability to handle the NFL game. Including Coach Dick Vermil.

With the way DJ dropped down the board ... there was a reason why!! Obviously if teams thought he was the next Ray Lewis, then he wouldn\'t have dropped out of the top 10!! That\'s a fact, Jack!!

I have no real insight of my own on any of the guys who were drafted. I never say DJ play. I never saw Jamal Brown play.

But, going on what the experts have to say: They like Jamal Brown as the safer pick.

You\'re entitled to your opinion. I just don\'t take it over the expert\'s opinions. And even they are wrong.

Mel Kiper I am not. I\'m not trying to fool anyone with my knowledge of any of the players that were drafted.

My opinions are based strictly on the opinions of the so-called experts.

I\'m no expert like you, saintwhodi!!

Wait, then why would you say we needed to trade up for a player you admit you know little about? Do you normally just say off the wall stuff with limited knowledge? Wait, don\'t answer that.

Did you read what these \"experts\" said before or after we drafted Brown and passed on DJ. The limited knowledge you had on DJ certainly was enough for you to make threads about not just drafting him, BUT ACTIVELY TRADING UP FOR HIM. :o

You just admitted you know little about any player of the draft, but let\'s say you knew this about Brown before the draft, why would you STILL suggest trading up for DJ on limited knowledge.

saintwhodi --

I wanted to get DJ. But all of that was based on what many of you had to say about the guy. But most of my reason for wanting to get DJ was because he was considered the best LB in the \'05 draft.

But after hearing about how weak the draft was for LB, it really wasn\'t a ringing endorsement for DJ. And after finally seeing DJ on film, he didn\'t look that impressive at all.

So, no, I did not want DJ based on hours of film study. Hell, I never even saw him play. But those experts that did see him play and who did watch hours of film on him, well ... they have some pretty big concerns about him.

Those same experts really have NO concerns about Jamal Brown. Which is probably why he was selected ahead of DJ. And he was going to get selected ahead of DJ ( by the Panthers) even if we wouldn\'t have picked Jamal Brown.

Would I have been upset if we had of drafted DJ? Hell no!! I would have loved the pick. But I would have some concerns knowing what I do now. I know much more about DJ today than what I did. Still, I think he\'ll be a pretty good player. I don\'t know if he\'ll ever be a probowler though. I\'m pretty sure Jamal Brown will be.

Note: Everything I just posted was based on the \"opinion\" of the draft experts.

;)

$50. If you want that, I am down. First to make the pro bowl right? Is there gonna be a one goes down with a career ending injury clause? What\'s the parameters? But I am down.

How many years did we draft a pro-bowler in the first round?

Over those years, how many pro-bowlers did any team draft in the first round? My guess, and this will be naive, is one.

Whodi, you are fond of ratios, what is our ratio of pro-bowlers to non in the 1st? What are the other teams? Now that would be helpful.

Many other teams passed on those guys too.

Sure, I understand the \"what if\" nature of this \"guys we could have had\" thing, but I am never really sure what the point is?

Can I get on this bet that DJ will be a pro bowler before brown. DJ is a stud linebacker we have no idea how good brown is. Hey its not like the saints produce a lot of pro bowlers. Hey a punter pro bowler and who else

DJ will be a pro bowler in 2-3 years
Brown never

In my very humble opinion ... Smitty just made an easy 100 bucks

Jamal Brown is a better RT than what DJ is a LB.

And get this ...

You know why most offensive linemen are voted to the probowl?

Get this:

Because their RB has a great year!!

Who is our RB? Deuce McAllister?

Deuce might get 2000 yards rushing this year and Brown might go to the probowl this year!!!

Spend the money wisely smitty ... ;)

I guess the pro bowl thing helps quantify the difference between these 2 picks.

I\'ll say this. Linemen usually aren\'t noticed unless they screw up. LBs are a bit easier to see out there and are thus a bit more glamorous.

I listened to the trade up and was happy that the Saints made a move. I thought we were grabbing DJ and was happy with that. We certainly need a stud LB. I was initially disappointed, but the more ilooked into this guy, the more I liked the pick. His interviews were lights out...he\'s a monster who can add a few pounds to his big frame. He pass blocks well and we all know that if we can just give AB 15 seconds to get the ball out, he can punch his ticket to Canton.

Brown is not a sexy pick, but he may be the smart pick.

The 2nd round pick was, to me, the most confounding along with the walking surgery that we took at WR.

As for the bet...I think you guys should bet a Saints ticket. Take each other to the game and bond :D

saintswhodi 04-25-2005 04:27 PM

Fine idea also yasoon, but smitty lives in dallas and I live in San Antone. Last year\'s Dallas game woulda been perfect cause I did go to that one, and me and my bud had an extra ticker cause another guy flaked out. Not a bad suggestion though, just probably not possible.
