New Orleans Saints linebacker DeMario Davis on Saturday accepted the 2018 Call To Courage Award from Indianapolis Colts Coach Frank Reich during the Call To Courage Award Breakfast in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Call to Courage Award honors a player who displays exemplary character and leadership and a strong commitment to his Christian faith. Former winners include running back Curtis Martin, quarterback Kurt Warner and linebacker London Fletcher.

"This is a huge honor, especially when you do the research and realize the guys who have come before you and won it," Davis told the Buffalo News. "A lot of my good friends have won it: Thomas Davis, Ben Watson, Jon Kitna and Kurt Warner, guys I really admire. What I think about those men, and to be in the same conversation with those guys, it's a huge honor."

Davis signed with the Saints as a free agent after playing five years with the New York Jets (2012-2015 and 2017) and one year with the Cleveland Browns. The 6-foot-2 248-pounder attended Arkansas State.

By all counts DeMario Davis looks to be the high character guy that belongs on the Saints roster. I can see him being the next Vilma in another run to the Lombardi.

19-0 baby!

He is my favorite off season addition and will most likely have the best impact. Davis' film looks real good! He's smart and a good leader on and off the field. He'll fit right in with the locker room in New Orleans and Drew Brees. Also, Ben Watson is back with his high character.

Josh Norman and Demario Davis gave out care packages to immigrant children in Texas

Don't care for his "hate" comments.

I can't speak for anyone but myself but I don't HATE anyone trying to cross the border ILLEGALLY - but that doesn't mean they should be allowed to break the law.

I don't hate illegal immigrants. I was raised on the family cattle ranch where we employed several Mexican cowboys who were my friends. I respect them wanting to come to America and I welcome them with open arms.

All I ask is that you follow the system and come in legally. Our infrastructure and hospitals are over tasked because we are unprepared for this massive immigration.

Back to football.:p How 'bout them Saints? :bng:

Didn't know Demario had the positive off the field and high character traits. Very good to know.

By all accounts he is a very high character guy, a kin to Ben Watson in that regard.

I just hope he plays for the Saints at the level he did last season for the Jets, and doesn't do a disappearing act like he did with the Browns.

He is the best off-season acqusition the Saints made, on paper at least.

If I'm not mistaken, both the Jets (2012-2015) and the Browns (2016) ran a strict 3-4 in which Davis was fairly limited by the scheme. Davis has the speed and mobility to cover sideline to sideline as do the best Mike LB's. In his return to the Jets (2017) it appeared the Jets ran more 4-3, or at least moved Davis around more. I had read somewhere that the Jets DC, Kacy Rodgers, had come from more of a 4-3 background, but the Jets were committed to the 3-4. Perhaps he finlly got through to them in 2017.

Anyway, Davis is going to get to use that athleticism with the Saints, much like Vilma did when he also "escaped" from the Jets' 3-4 scheme.
