I\'ll help you Kelley. God forbid anyone wants to say anything bad about the Saints FO. They are apparently infallible in all instances.

Trade activity could include N.O.\'s Howard

Grab your pencils and erasers, it could be a busy day of trades today in the NFL draft.

The disparity in player rankings among teams and the high number of veteran players on the blocks are the reasons.

\"This might be a record-setter,\" first-year Seattle general manager Tim Ruskell said. \"I don\'t remember one with this much activity being talked about prior to the draft.\"

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said he doesn\'t expect this weekend\'s draft to be any more chaotic than others.

\"I think it\'ll be the same as past years, there\'ll be about 20 to 30 deals,\" Loomis said.

The Saints might contribute to that total.

New Orleans has shopped defensive end Darren Howard throughout the offseason. The Saints have also dangled tight end Boo Williams and guard Kendyl Jacox, according to two league sources.

Dallas still seems the most willing suitor for Howard, whom the Saints have designated as their franchise player. The Cowboys have two first-round picks, Nos. 11 and 20, and a willingness to pull the trigger. Dallas has dealt its first-round pick 10 times since 1993, including last year to Buffalo.

The Saints have fielded calls from Dallas, Washington and Philadelphia this week.

The Cowboys reportedly offered to swap first-round picks with the Saints, sending the No. 11 pick to New Orleans in exchange for the No. 16 and Howard.

Philadelphia also reportedly offered its first-round pick, No. 31 overall, for Howard.

The Saints, however, appear reluctant to part with their most productive defender for anything less than a middle first-rounder.

Howard, who led the Saints with 11 sacks last season, has been a regular participant in the club\'s offseason conditioning program. The Saints are scheduled to pay him a $7.8 million base salary this season. Loomis would like to lower that figure so he can complete long-term contract extensions with Joe Horn, Deuce McAllister, LeCharles Bentley and Mike McKenzie.

If Howard isn\'t dealt, the Saints are expected to sign him to a long-term deal in July that would lower his $7.8 million salary-cap figure.

Interesting that the Birds offered #31 and NO said no.

It\'s not as interesting when you consider it\'s probably a leak from NO to pump Howard\'s value and is just untrue.

A tidbit from an Eagles forum. I\'ll have to agree with the sentiment that this \"offer\" was not actually made. It just doesn\'t make sense that the FO didn\'t accept it considering it was the highest \"offer\" I\'ve heard about and our need to unload his contract. Funny thing about all these \"reported\" happenings...they mean nothing without being backed up.

I\'m sticking with it being an IF!

So basically Scotty, and i\'ve had this discussion before, anything reported should not be believed? We have devolved into an unless you were there, saw it, heard it, and filmed it board? So anytime someone posts a link, we should automatically poo poo it cause we didn\'t see it happen? And we should believe the word of fans from an Eagles forum who may or may not have had ANY interest in acquiring Howard?

And the link you posted was to some Eagles fans saying HEY Let\'s do it and some saying it\'s a ploy? How was that supposed to convinve me more than a published article? That\'s a forum just like this one. AND the article I posted said clearly the Saints wanted a mid first rounder for Howard. Now if they want a mid first rounder, and they are offered a very late first rounder, well, I don\'t need to explain that. I\'m sticking with Kelley that it happened. And we let an opportunity pass.

Do I beleive an article that said the Eagles offered a 1st? NOPE!!

And why would I? Because it was in an article?

I will say this: They MIGHT have.

I\'ve read all kinds of things written in articles that weren\'t true.

There\'s just not enough proof at this point to say one way or the other.

Believe it if ya want to, though. It COULD be true.

You\'re right the Eagles fans were on both sides, too.

I posted that just to show that I\'m not alone in my thinking that it seems strange that NO would pass that up considering everything.

The thing is...if a report came out saying the Eagles offered that to the Saints, that\'s one thing. What we have here is an article saying that the author cannot assure the veracity of the comment that the Saints were offered that, but is only giving comment on the situation if that is true.

Until it is confirmed it is all speculation and that is where we get into the if\'s. There\'s really nothing wrong with discussing all the possibilities, but this entire thread on what we could have done with a pick that was reportedly offered, yet unverified, seems supurfluous to me.

I not saying that you don\'t have the right to speculate all day long if you want. I was just telling Kool that I don\'t think he should feel SO bad about it since for all we know it is nothing more than myth.

I can agree with that Scotty. But also the part of the article that makes me believe it more is
Quote:

That quote alone covers the base of why they didn\'t take it. They wanted more. Hence my questioning if the too greedy part of Mueller\'s article could be applied to us. If I say I want a Whopper with cheese, and you just give me a Whopper, I am gonna refuse that. IF(as you say) the Saints wanted MORE than just a late first rounder, and that\'s all they got, then they stuck to their guns and didn\'t take it. A late first rounder is not a middle first rounder. But like I said, I can also see your point. Allow us to still feel down about the possibility. ;)
