Re: New Orleans Saints OTAs 5-7 June 2018

Not spotted: OL Rick Leonard and TE Garrett Griffin

Present but mostly not participating: DE Cam Jordan, DE Trey Hendrickson, DE Alex Okafor, WR Brandon Coleman, TE Deon Yelder, OL Andrus Peat, WR Cameron Meredith

The Freak: It’s organized team activities...but there are times during these practices where Mike Thomas dominates. And he makes it look easy. Thomas just seems like he’s more explosive and more physical than everyone else. It’s hard to know how Thomas can continue to improve since he played at such a high-level last season...

Sacks galore: Don’t put much stock in sacks during these practices...but Marcus Davenport had a good rush against tackle Michael Ola...his progress will be a matter of refining his technique. On the personnel front, with Cam Jordan, Trey Hendrickson and Alex Okafor not participating in team drills, Al-Quadin Muhammad and Davenport worked with the starters again...

Standing out: UDFA wide receiver Eldridge Massington has had at least one play in each practice open to the media...the one today came on a deep route against cornerback De’Vante Harris...second-year wide receiver Travin Dural has also looked good... It will be tough for anyone to crack the roster at wide receiver, and it is too early to start handicapping battles.

Good defense: The defense came on late with a handful of plays during the two-minute portion of practice. Brees’ series ended when Marcus Williams ran down a deep pass intended for Tommylee Lewis, who had a few good moments during the session, and knocked the pass away. On the next snap, Marshon Lattimore jumped an in-breaking route to Dural for what would have been a pick-six. Tom Savage’s series ended in two plays when he was picked off on an errant throw, and then Taysom Hill was repeatedly sacked to end the period.

Quick notes: Alex Anzalone had some nice moments in coverage and, not that this is a new observation, shows good range in coverage. He’ll be a nice addition to the defense if he remains healthy...Patrick Robinson already looks like an upgrade in the slot. He broke up a pass intended for Austin Carr during practice...Hau’oli Kikaha continues to get snaps at linebacker.
