If we create something like the Jags last year (which is totally doable) we are a high speed freight train. Good luck stopping it. A pass rush with a legit shutdown corner and solid secondary. If Davenport delivers it's going to be fun to watch.

Don't expect Davenport to play like a two first round pick guy, but if he's even among the top three rookie defensive ends, it'll still be huge...

Then you throw in a year wiser, savvier, stronger, and recovered Trey Hendrickson who shows he can be a special pass rusher, plus...

If Okafor can come back by the fifth game, fully recovered and can finish the whole season, that's one helluva a rotation opposite Cam Jordan...

But it's still gonna take the interior defenders to up their games to 84+ grade performances, collapsing the pocket for the edge guys to finish...

I expect Davenport to play like a high first round guy. I wouldn't doubt it if he outplays Chubb. Neilsen made Chubb who he is. I really think he has more to work with in Davenport. Chubb also had three other excellent linemen giving him the chances.

Marcus will contribute right away & will become a potential cornerstone piece on defense after #9 retires. Whatever the Saints gave up to get him in the draft will mean nothing if the coaches get 9, 10 years of elite play out of him.

JP, you are a Saints football historian so you can appreciate the quote from the late Jim Finks when he said "it takes DL at least 2, 3 years to hit their stride".

Trust and believe.

Jim Finks would've never allowed Payton to have traded two first round picks for Davenport...

If'n is a big possibility of a word, but IF we had Finks, we'd had two more Lombardi's under Brees' era; Finks built a great team and Mora, unchecked, destroyed it...

The Saints didn’t actually trade two first round picks. They traded next year’s first rounder and a fifth rounder this year to convert this year’s first round pick from 27 to 14. They used next year’s first rounder to move up.

Given what Jeff Ireland, Loomis and the rest of the front office brass have done in recent drafts, it’s hard to challenge their logic.

Next stop, Super Bowl :bng:.

Agree on that first part...

..., but this is the same Loomis who traded two first round picks to move up and select Johnathan Sullivan, or Stanley Jean Baptiste in the second round among other brain farts...

...and had he done this as GM of any other franchise, he would've been run out of football...

Loomis is a yes man and a moron...

Irregardless and despite several of the personnel gaffes of DIS/Loomis, and blown opportunties, I wlll emphatically agree on this point -

...this squad is in a great position to make a strong run late into the playoffs this year because of the 2017 draft haul...

In my mind, the 2016 Saints draft tee'd it up.

Rankins
Michael Thomas
V Bell
David Onyemata

All good to above average starters.

Footnote - 2015 Draft contributors still on the team.

Peat
Kikaha
Davison

The front office is hitting on draft selections more than missing.
