Kirk Cousins wanted to be drafted by Saints or Patriots to play behind Drew Brees or Tom Brady
The New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots had the two picks after Foles was selected No. 88 overall. Despite three years as a Big Ten starter, Cousins admitted he wasn’t ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. He sat on the edge of his seats for those two selections, hoping to be able to learn from either of their experienced quarterbacks.
“He would’ve loved to be behind (Drew) Brees or (Tom) Brady,” MaryAnn said. Neither team picked Cousins, and the third round ended with seven quarterbacks off the board. Cousins appears to be a smart Guy, although he would have been like the Maytag Repairman behind his two choices.

New England had Jimmy Garroppolo and look how that turned out for them - selected him #62 overall (2nd round), traded him to San Fran for only the 43rd pick...
All those years developing him, paying him to sit behind what may be the G.O.A.T. - that's not to say we couldn't have pulled a Bill Walsh and traded Brees... Payton can be criticized for being foolish in the draft, but he wouldn't have that kind of brass - wouldn't want a 2nd rounder sitting when talent is needed elsewhere... |

If you don’t think you are ready and you have the option of who’s clipboard you will carry, wouldn’t Brees / Brady be the obvious picks?
I’m not sure I’ve ever bought into the whole ‘watching someone play makes you better’ theory... I’ve been watching Drew for over a decade and stil not a worth-a-fk QB. |

Know this thread is about Kirk Cousins, but I'd just like to add that Nick Foles hit Free Agency not once, but twice at very affordable rates...
And Foles even played at the same high school as Drew Brees - now how'd that be for a Life-After-Brees QB Contingency Plan??? Thanks, Mickey, you Mickster! |
